How often does your computer freeze up on you?

Mine seems to do so every three days or so. Sometimes I do a warm reboot. Sometimes I do a cold reboot. This morning I did a cold reboot. Everything seems OK now. I may go play music with my friend Mike later. Right now I drink coffee and wake up.

It happened with the laptop I replaced today frequently. Though I could unfreeze it by using my technical chops without needing any reboot, but it was still an annoyance among the many other problems it had. It was just an one year old laptop, the result of a bad purchase decision.

That's pretty good. I wonder if I sometimes have too many browsers open.

There are numerous reasons why a computer freezes, it could be the hard drive, memory problem, software or application problems, over heating, a malware or virus, are you sure it's not too cold in your place?

@TheHorse too many windows open would allow cold air and frost to come in that's why it freezes so better close it.

Heh. I think I probably just have too many windows open at the same time.

Mine takes a long time to get into in the morning but after that it seems fine. I think I have too many programmes running on start up.

@TheHorse I usually leave mine when I start it up and do something else. Once I'm in it's usually fine for the rest of the day.

It used to happen at least once a week. I had it in to Geek Squad a few times and they couldn't figure out what was going on with it. Ended up swapping out the hard drive on my own and it mostly works like a charm now.

@TheHorse No, but they would have if I hadn't had the protection plan on it.

Good to hear. Did Geek Squad charge you even when they couldn't figure it out?

Oh, I meant coal reboot. I build a small coal fire under my computer to keep it warm. Did you know that plastic melts?

I haven't used a computer for a long time, before often showing a blue screen when too many applications are running.

Once a day or so, at least this one. But, then it wasn't designed for the type of multi-tasking I do.

My laptop froze up on me about two weeks ago. I did a cold reboot and haven't had any trouble since. I'm glad you got it up and running successfully.

@TheHorse That's possible. Mine handles about twenty open tabs before it starts balking while playing YT videos at the same time.

Yeppers, still working. Maybe I just tend to open up too many browsers at once, taxing working memory. I dunno.

My laptop becomes strange at times and I can't do anything so I have to restart it and then it runs just fine for about 3 - 4 days, I usually don't turn it off but put it to sleep at night,

@TheHorse That could be the problem. I sometimes have a heap of windows open then start to worry about overloading the poor thing.

it is likely software that is installed causing the problem. if it were hardware, it would happen fairly consistently (like every day after the PC was on for an hour).

@TheHorse that I would say is possible but not likely. it is more likely a bit of software you have installed that isn't doing what it is supposed to do. For example - you ask a child to please put blocks away. Every day they put the blocks away, but they always throw one in the trash. You let them, and collect the ones that are incorrectly stored. But on the last day the child can't play with the blocks they are all in the trash. your computer is the same as the child. it sometimes throws the blocks away not knowing it needs them later. then it reaches for that block, it isn't there and freezes.

My desktop computer almost never freezes up on me. It happened a few weeks ago, it rebooted a couple of times. I turned it off, let it rest 4 minutes and when I turned on it worked.

Mine doesn't freeze up but my screen starts flickering (is that the right word?). That becomes very annoying. I managed to find a solution. When I plug the laptop into the outlet the flickering stops. However, not a good idea to do that if the battery is pretty full. Wonder why it flickers and how to make it not happen at all.
