$47.50 to fill my car seems a bit much

Eugene, Oregon

My fuel light came on Friday, reminding me that I needed to fill my gasoline tank. I didn't drive much over the weekend, but went to fill my tank at Costco on Monday. The lines weren't too long, so I got in easily. The total for just over 12 gallons of regular (just over 45 liters) of regular gas was $47.50. My state of Oregon has a pretty high gas tax, 36 cents per gallon and we have a federal tax (paid in every state) of 18 cents per gallon. I am okay with my state's high tax really. We pay no sales tax at all, just income and property taxes. Anyway, are gasoline prices rising fast where you live?

Yes, gasoline prices are rising fast in Texas, $3.04 for one gallon of gas. In Texas, you have to pay sales tax as well for certain goods and services.

I know it's that way in many states. Oregon is one of the exceptions.

@JamesHxstatic I've never been to Oregon before. Did gas used to be lower there?

@t100068 It cost me about $10 more for this tank than it did a few weeks ago. Oil prices are rising like crazy. almost $85 per barrel today. Should make the drillers happy. I was born in Abilene and grew up to age 15 in San Antonio.

I don't usually let it get below a quarter tank either. You never know when you have leave in a hurry.

I have heard that on the news. People who commute to work are spending a lot of income on fuel.

@JamesHxstatic My car is a 2 door Toyota coupe. Made in 2004 and still peddling. Its bigger than a Smart Car. Its a not very clean little monster but the mechanic says there is nothing wrong with it so I will keep on driving it.

£1.40 per litre 4.54 litres in a UK gallon £6.35 per gallon. £6.35 equals $8.71 per imperial UK gallon Or £5.32 per US Gallon or $7.30 Stop moaning James, I wish I had to pay what you have to pay.

A bit. But, compared to how much my husband spends, (and he never lets the tank get that low) you got off pretty cheep.

I paid 630 NOK for 40 litres yesterday, that's about $75 dollars. So I don't really think you paid a lot :-) No lines here though. I've never been in a line to fill my tank. Is that normal?

In Germany it has skyrocketed once more and I will have to refuel today.... My 45 litres will be around $80. I am really glad that today is my first office day in 2021 due to covid and that I do save SOOOO much gas money...

I'm in Oregon. To fill my tank it's about $90. I have a 27 gallon tank. I save my Safeway points to get a lot off a gallon.

@JamesHxstatic I'm in rural Scio so gas up either in Scio, Stayton or Costco (Albany or Salem), depending where I am. Costco takes about 40 minutes or so to get to for either city. I did gas up last night for $69 using some rewards at the Chevron.

Fuel seems to be expensive here but my understanding is that it's a lot more expensive than yours. We paid 159.9c a litre last week. JJ gave me the formula for converting it to US dollars but I've lost it so I have no idea how it equates to your prices. It's all too hard - litres to US gallons, our dollar to yours, etc.

Hope that can last at least a month! For one week that is high, you could make your own gas out of cooking fuel
