Fadin' kitten syndrome

E'er heard 'f such a monkey? Me neither, e'en though I've been dealin' with critters all my life. Meet Mr. Alex. The eldest son heard weak kitten cries from 'nder my back deck. 'fter some deconstruction 'f said deck, this kitten 'twas found. Stiff 's a board, ice cold to the touch'n barely hangin' 'nto this earth by a thread. This'd be the same kitten I'd seen with 'ts momma that early that morn. Spunky, yet wobbly legs tryin' to keep'p with her steps 's she showed him 'round the back yard. Same's what I ran 'nto out by the hay barn several weeks earlier. Though no cries from kittens, jest found near death. Sadly I'd not 'nough knowledge to save those. My 'fforts to bring 'em back to life a failure, though we fought hard fer a week'n a half. I couldn't figure 't out, no vet to help. When those t'were found I 'twas given an 'ppointment 2 weeks later - the soonest they could 'fit us in'. 5 days too late fer those blessed babes. Hittin' the internet to seek more knowledge, I ran 'cross "fading kitten syndrome". 'll 'ttach a link to such'n case ya desire more info. Seems that havin' antibiotics could'a possibly saved the lil family out by the barn... This pic 'f Mr. Alex 'twas 'bout 45 minutes 'fter he 'twas found. Wrapped'n warm towels 'long with a heatin' pad he'd finally opened those sweet eyes. I'd feared he'd not make 't through the night, my heart so numb from the recent loss 'f the others. 'fter 'bout 4 hours 'f 'dministerin' sugar water to his gums e'ery 3 minutes a bit 'f life came to his eyes. He started tryin' to nurse my finger so I made the lil fella a bottle. Most interestin' mixture 'f strawberry flavored Pedialyte 'n kitten formula. Why strawberry? Coz that 'tis all the store'd! Seriously, 'tis most odd what runs short durin' these pandemic times. I slept not a wink, with him close by my side. The resident pup cryin' softly fer hours 's we tended 'n waited. She's a kind heart 'n 'ttaches easily to sickly babes. We braced ourselves fer more loss. By 'bout 2am-ish, he'd started tryin' to 'scape his lil purrito. Eyes fully opened 'n lookin' mighty hungry. He scarfed down a full tablespoon 'f kitten formula/strawberry pedialyte. The vets office'd felt a bit 'f remorse o'er the loss 'f the others 'n 'd given me antibiotics ("in case you get some more kittens in need"). I truly feel this 'twas his savin' grace 's I 'dministered such deligently. He's now a healthy 5 week ol' kitten 'n joins Mr. Toby'n wee feline antics. The vets guess bein' that he 'twas 'bout 2 weeks ol' when found. The antibiotics the life saver. So, if'n ya hear kittens with loud, 'bnormal screams. Lethargic 'r unusually wobbly please pay heed. These lil darlin's 'd be't the start 'f great distress 'n they perish this earth quickly.

Oh my, how sweet. You were his saving angel for sure. Staying up with him all night and giving him the attention he needed is how he survived. Good for you my sweet friend.

You've been busy! Good work :-) I hope animals here have the sense not to produce litters now. At least wild animals don't, it's too cold.

So now you have two new little ones too grace your home. I hope they both do better now. And you answered my other question here, from the other post.

You are wonderful to have saved that baby. I don't necessarily think the antibiotics did the trick though. I think it was you bringing him in and feeding him.

I'm so sorry you went through that, hopefully they didn't suffer that much. Thanks for the link but I haven't heard any kitties around here at all.

Such a lovely story - that you were able to save this little fellow - and you are now better armed should you encounter more.
