Terribly spoiled

We can cook everything quickly, with little or no effort. We have instant oatmeal, and instant other things. Meals do not really require effort. Well, I bought some bulk packaged 9 grain cereal. It did not have instructions, but I looked up similar products online. It has to cook for thirty minutes, stirring occasionally. So I am making a larger amount and will put a couple of servings in containers for "instant breakfast" on another day. Reheated in the microwave. I am going to go to the dentist today. I cancelled an appointment last week, but one opened up today, when I am off, so I am taking it. I will tell you how my 9grain cracked wheat cereal turned out later. Time to get going.

I tried once instant polenta and I thought that if I have no time I will renounce to eat polenta, but I want the real thing.

@GardenGerty This is what I thought, I do my best to avoid preservatives and chemicals in food.

@LadyDuck To make many of the grains "instant" the grind them so finely you lose the value of the fiber in them.

@Nawsheen If it makes you feel full and gives you energy that is a good thing.

Not all dishes in India can be cooked quickly.

No, I am sure they cannot. Really good tasting food takes a while to simmer and grow tasty.

Here, a swab test is mandatory before being treated by a dentist. Is it the same there?

No, not at this time. It was not an option at all for a while. Dental employees all wear masks. When I am not being treated, I wear a mask. Right now we do not have a lot of covid in our area. Some doctor's office you answer questions and get your temperature taken.

Oh, I totally understand what you are saying. Certainly "puts you in your place" when you have to do something involved, considering we are used to instant gratification. Like white rice? I NEVER make rice-rice - I always buy the kind you can microwave in 90 seconds. LOL. I would be super bummed if I had to make it the old-fashioned way!

I do not mind that if I am not in a hurry. I like to make a large portion and then divide it up and freeze it. Then I microwave it, like the 90 second rice.

Yeah, we are really spoiled, imagine what those pioneer women had to go through to cook meals for families everyday.

I honestly believe those women cooked one meal a day and served it differently 3 times a day.

It cooked up nicely. I have not tried reheating any of the extra yet, but I certainly will. It was filling, and I managed not to put any lumps in it while cooking it.Lots of butter and sweetener make it perfect.

Dentist was a regular cleaning, paid for by my dental insurance. I got some answers to some questions, though.

I use the instant oatmeal in the winter for breakfasts. But you're right - we want everything to be instant.

I put regular oats in a deep bowl with milk and any flavorings and cook it two and a half minutes. I was really shocked at how long it takes to cook this more hearty cereal.

Hope you fare well at the dentist and the grain cereal works out. I've never found any of the instant cereals to be very good, so maybe this one will be good.

Yes, since it was long cooking, it was good.Dentist appointment went well, too. I opted to pay for a fluoride treatment as well.
