Seasonal work comes to an end

My fiance works in his family business. Since they deal with the repair of boats they only work seasonal. They have the winter off and start back up in the Spring. He got the word today that this week will be his last week of work. Not good timing with Christmas just around the corner. He was hoping to work until the end of the year.
He will get unemployment benefits but who knows how long that will take before he gets his first check. The government are never in a hurry when they owe you money. Oh well it is what it is. At least he still has his job to go back to in the Spring.
He will work odd jobs here and there while he is off but there is not a lot of work going on through the winter months. On a positive note at least when I get home from work the place will be clean, the dishes will be done and my meals will be cooked. Gotta like that.
How is your evening/day going?

@Faster16 We will get married eventually. We would like to have a wedding and with covid we can't do that right now. We have been together almost 11 years now.

@Happy2BeMe What's the point of a fiancé if you don't have a goal of getting married? Excuse me, is that normal there?

My evening last night was fine. It sounds like he works at home when he is not working and that is good with me. Some guys just want to bum around working or not. So it sounds like he pulls his weight.

@Happy2BeMe He sounds a little bit like my brother in law, but I don't know about the gleaming kitchen part. He will be retiring in December. He loves reading and cooking, although not sure that is going to be enough to keep him occupied. There are some online games he plays. Not quite sure what he will be doing with himself, sis says plenty of home projects..but he has to be in the mood.

@snowy22315 It will be an adjustment for him to go from working to retirement. Sounds like your sister will do her best to keep him busy.

Here in our place, common job among sugarcane cutters is seasonal. It usually starts September and ends December. After that they have to wait for another 8 months to start cane cutting.

That is a long wait in between jobs. He will start back in March or April.

@Happy2BeMe yes it's a long wait. I don't know how these people survive for they don't formal education. They live in poverty.

I am getting ready to go enjoy Thanksgiving with family. Just a short trip, then my daughter and her family will stop here on their way home.

Family business would perhaps mean a share in the profits too?

That's great that he can cook. My husband likes to cook and can do it better than I can.

That is cool. He is the same way. I cook because I have to but he cooks because he enjoys it.
