Money doesn’t grow on trees...

Or does it? I remember my uncle’s wife had a small tree on her nightstand and on each branch was a $1 bill. There were lots of $1 bills there. I’ve never seen that before. Wonder if she still has it. There’s actually a plant called money tree. I wonder why it’s called that way. And does it bring any luck or money to people? My mom has it in her house and so does my mother-in-law.

You do realize that there are trees where money grows, right? In southern Missouri, it's called a Black Walnut tree. The fruit is a hard green ball that falls off in the autumn. People pick those up and take them to the hullers where the green outer layer is mechanically removed and the black walnut is deposited in a bag. The person that collected the walnuts is paid for the weight of the nuts in the bag. Money from trees. When I was a kid, we had a long row of black walnut trees alone one edge of our property. After school, I'd go down to the trees with old burlap feed sacks and pick up the black walnuts and put them into the bag. When I'd finished picking up all the walnuts, I'd call one of my brothers who owned a pickup and he'd take my bags of walnuts and I to the huller. After I got paid, he'd take enough to cover his gas and the rest of the money was mine.

That is rather interesting. I've never seen walnuts like that. Thought they were beige or whatever the exact color is.

The name of the plant probably has to do with the shape or texture of its leaves. In all reality money doesn’t grow on trees since actually money is made from fabric fibers not plants. It is green like plants.

The dollar bills plant must be lovely, it may suffer from inflation but requires little care. I didn't know about the money tree plant, there are so many items and amulets that "help" with luck. I think they might even work because of positive thinking, law of attraction and so forth. Most trees can bring some wealth if you're able to sell the fruits or the wood, anyway.

That is true. If the trees grows apples and you sell them you make money. And if you price them high you make more money.

Here's what it says on the computer: "The name "money tree" refers to the story of its origin, where a poor man prayed for money, found this "odd" plant, took it home as an omen, and had great fortune in selling plants grown from its seeds. The Money Tree is hardy and extremely tolerant of low light and dryness.

@lovebuglena So did you ask them about the money tree? I have heard in the past about a money tree. I have never seen them and was not sure if someone just said it and it does or does not exist. Now, you have seen them so I know it does exist.

The money tree plant does exist. The tree with dollar bills on them, don’t remember what it’s made from but it’s fake.

@lovebuglena I have heard people talk about a money tree but have never seen one. Too bad the dollar bill tree is fake. Is it like monopoly money put on for show only?

@lovebuglena The money trees that I have seen looks like miniature trees that people can attach money to it. I am not sure if it is same thing you are talking about.

@Scrapper88 what my aunt had—that could be the same thing. If I remember correctly her bills were attached via rubber bands.

I have money tree all over the yard. It's a small purple flowered weed that develops coin shaped pods containing seeds. There was a movie way back when about a money tree. I'll see if I can find a link. The only way money grows on trees is if you sell the fruits lol.

Bank notes used to be made from paper which is made from trees! Banknotes these days seen to be made from a sort of plastic material. I don't know what it is. Australian banknotes are like that and now British ones are that way too. It helps stop them from tearing.
