Fish curry on the menu.. strawberry Chocolate cake for dessert.

It's 12 noon as I write this post. I am done with the work at school today.
And now after some rest with mylotting, I would enter the kitchen to make lunch. It's fish curry and rice with cucumber salad on the menu today. We have some left over chicken from yesterday for my elder daughter who is allergic to fish. And some green peas masala are also left from the last night for my vegetarian self. Today I plan to taste some fish too. Occasionally I am a fishitarian
. The last time I had fish was in August.
I am making Katla curry. Katla is a freshwater fish of India and is one that is mostly used here.
My younger one continues with her baking experiment. She baked one delicious chocolate cake yesterday evening and it was decorated on the top with fresh strawberries. You can see that in the picture. It looks delicious
More than half of the cake is still there in the fridge. So, they can have it for dessert or for their evening snacks. The choice is theirs. I am not touching any sweet for now. I indulged into some sweets on 14th and 15th January as it was Shankranti celebration here. That spiked my sugar and with my diet control and exercise, I have managed to bring it back on track
. Now, no sweets for me till the next festival of Basant Panchami and that is couple of weeks away
Hope all going well in your mylot corner. Stay safe and healthy. It's scary time with this new wave of the pandemic. So, take all care to keep yourself protected and your loved ones too.

I'm glad I wasn't eating with you today. I can't eat fish, either and your elder daughter might not be willing to share the chicken...
(I've never heard of cucumber salad.) I hope everyone enjoyed their lunch.
The cake looks interesting. I might stop by to have a little taste of it.
I'm not feeling the best today. My tummy is upset and I'm running a low grade fever. (35.5C) I don't know what's wrong.
I hope you all have a good day.

I was trying not to mention your peas.
Oh, then I'm sure she would share the chicken so she wouldn't have to eat it again so soon.
The cucumber salad does sound good.
Thank you.

She would have loved to share her chicken. There was enough and now she might have the same in the dinner. I would have kept the green peas masala away from your sight
Cucumber salad is just finely sliced cucumber with some black pepper, rock salt and lime juice.
Sorry to know that you are not keeping well. Hopefully you feel better soon.

@arunima25 @TheSojourner I've never heard of 1.5 diabetes either. I'll have to research it.

Thank you Judy. The cake was delicious and they enjoyed it. They have some left for tomorrow too.
I have type 1.5 diabetes and it is not easy to give up on sweets. I do have them at festivals. This time I had a bit of extra indulgence and that spiked my sugar. I have learned to make some diabetic-friendly desserts and they are good too.

@TheSojourner I am very disciplined with my diet and exercise.
Yes, it is a land of festivals and we have some or the other festival every month and sometimes a couple of them in a single month

@arunima25 I cooked meat for my family as the kids were growing up but several years ago I decided to go vegetarian. It suits me.

I am also a vegetarian by choice. But occasionally ( once or twice in a year), I would take fish. You will always find some good vegetarian options in my home. I cook non veg for my husband and daughters but I stay strictly vegetarian.

@RubyHawk It suits me too and has been really helpful to manage my diabetes. What about your kids? Are they vegetarian too? My husband and daughters can not leave their non veg. They just love it.

@Rashnag I am restricting myself till basant panchami. And then I would take a break from sweets till Holi.
We have some or the other festival every month to enjoy sweets. That's good enough for my diabetes

I have a vegan curry in the fridge ready for tomorrows dinner. I think it's cauliflower. I've never tried it before so I can't wait to see what it's like. It says it's mild on the box but I've had stuff that said mild before but it nearly blew my head off!
I hope this ones OK.

I hope it's not so spicy and you can enjoy it without blowing your head.
Is that an Indian preparation?? Indian food can be spicy for those who are not used to it.

That was a really long time back. I was a toddler then
. Goan style is more of konkani style and they use more of cashew paste and coconut paste for gravy. What I made today was of one style from the state of Bihar. We use mustard and garlic paste as the gravy base with other herbs and spices.
It was delicious

@TheSojourner Mustard is used as spice here and more commonly used for seasoning. Mustard oil is used for many traditional dishes. It enhances the taste and flavour.

Everything sounds delicious! Understand how you feel about sugar intake. I just found Skim Fast snacks to help me through, liking sweets, but getting blood drawn in February for doctor, time. I was really tempted to get to pecan pie, but opted for healthier snacks.

Diabetes does put a lot of restrictions for us. But then we have to learn to live with it and still enjoy our lives.
It's good that we make healthier choice every time we eat. That helps in many more ways than just controlling our diabetes.

Looks delicious. I would eat some of that. But not the curry. I once had an indian friend that asked me to dinner a couple times. I loved the flavor of the curry but it would burn my mouth and stomach so bad I never ate it again. She did used to make some kind of fried puffy little things for breakfast she gave me a couple times I loved. Wish I could remember the name. They were not hot tasting.

If you are not used to spices, you can not tolerate them. Being a tropical country, we need those hot spices and herbs in our food to keep us healthy by boosting our metabolism and immunity. And it's a part of our cuisine culture and so we develop a taste and tolerance for it.
You can go for a milder version. My husband likes spicy food but I like it in moderate or milder way.
The cake was delicious. I didn't have it but my husband and daughters relished it. The last bit was savoured today. I would love to share a piece with you.
