Bad grades and coronavirus again!

My daughter is the smartest person I know. When she tried more in school her gpa was always 99.1. Even when she didn’t try as hard last year she still had a 98. Since she started dating this guy she’s been with since October she isn’t doing her homework. She is failing one class and is one point away from failing another. I honestly don’t think she’s ever even failed a test in her life let alone failed a class. She truly could do anything in life with how smart she is. It isn’t like the classes are to hard for her as she had 92 & a 95 in them last quarter. She has no common sense and makes bad choices though. Reminds me very much of my sister. And in other news she also had Coronavirus now. Her boyfriend and his grandma came down with it the day before. They picked it up from his best friend. I was all stressed out about this stuff yesterday and messed up dinner. My husband managed to salvage it somewhat. At least the dessert I made turned out okay. I made chocolate chip cookies and crumpled them in a bowl of vanilla ice cream. To bad we didn’t have cool whip and chocolate syrup that would have been really tasty!

I never understood that. The whole doing bad in school once you got a boyfriend/girlfriend. Your "partner" should want you to succeed in school/life. As should you always. Makes no sense to me. Hope they all get better fast.

@Courtlynn instead of him encouraging her to keep doing amazing she is acting like him and not doing her school work. It’s so sad. She would have been Salutatorian at graduation.

@shaggin such a shame. I hope she opens her eyes. Especially since they'll more than likely not last.

Good grades are important but she must think this dude she is seeing is more important than her successes. It is sad to see that. The Rona is bad, I know so many people who had it at one time or another. I wish it would just go away. The most important thing is chocolate chip cookies and ice cream, two major food groups combined!

@akalinus she thinks he cares about her more then me. He obviously doesn’t if he encourages her to skip school and not do her homework. Tonight I’m making chocolate chip cookies in a mug I think if I have all the ingredients.

@celticeagle tomorrow she is supposed to be able to go to school. She feels better but is still coughing. No more fever. I have to call the school and make sure she’s allowed back.

I am so sorry you are going through this. With 4 children of my own, all pretty smart (except my girls take after me when it comes to complicated math. ) and they all have done something that I knew would affect their life. My youngest is going through struggles now due to poor decisions, but since he is an adult, I can't do much more than pray for him.

@LadyDuck my daughter is always at her boyfriends after school until bedtime or in her room here. We don’t see much of her sadly. We were around here for about 5 minutes when she wasn’t feeling well and wasn’t wearing a mask but hopefully that wasn’t enough for us to catch it.

@LadyDuck we did have to sit in the car with her for 25 minutes waiting to be tested. She wore her mask until she got tested though then put it back on after.

@CarolDM he’s a really bad influence on her I think. I’m not a big fan of chocolate chip cookies so I didn’t care much for the dessert but it wasn’t awful either. The boys all loved it.

@RebeccasFarm she has always been self motivated to do well. This is hard to watch. I wish I was even half as smart as she is I wouldn’t have struggled so badly I school.

Sounds like you have a lot going on there and I hope your daughter recovers from the virus. Sad that she has just gone from having such a good gpa to failing. Does the boyfriend have anything to do with her failing grades?

@Marilynda1225 I think he has everything to do with it. I always only let her go places on weekends not school nights. Being 17 I started letting her go to his house on school nights and she told me she was doing her homework at his house. Well she stopped doing her homework and he doesn’t do his so no doubt that’s why she thinks it’s okay to quit doing hers. She’s been just awful since she started dating him. I’ve tried grounding her and nothing works when I told her she can’t go there she ran out of the house and jumped in his car.

@Marilynda1225 she did so amazing all her school years. She was going to be Salutatorian at graduation in a few months but not anymore. She’s so brilliant to throw it all away like this.

@shaggin that's a tough situation to be in. She's too young to understand how silly it is to throw away her good grades and put all her energy into what she probably thinks is the love of her life. Being a mom is the hardest job of all.

@JudyEv she only dates guys who are on the slow side. I think it’s honestly because she’s so jealous she doesn’t want to date anyone whose smarter then she is. Which would be hard to find a guy smarter then her anyway since she was always ranked second in her class until now.

I don't know what to tell you. Kids are so different in their actions and responses to parents. You can only hope and pray she comes to her senses and gets a better boyfriend. I will be praying for you sweetheart
