Do you use your credit card cash back rewards at Amazon?

I go to my mom's credit card account to redeem her cash back rewards. After asking me how much I want to redeem it asks me: Have you considered using your points at Amazon.com? No thank you! We don't want to spend this money. We want to save it. Scroll down further and then it says: Still want cash back? Sure thing! Where do you want it to go? and it gives me an option to put that money into a checking account or a savings account or get a statement credit. Of course, I opt to move that money to her savings account, which is what I always do. Why is the first thing that they offer the customer to do is to use the cash back at Amazon? With my own credit card I always opt for a statement credit to lower my credit card bill. But if I am actually shopping at Amazon I sometimes use my cash back rewards to lower my order total.

I had credit cards years back. Now, I don't want to use one, ever. I do have a debit card, this keeps our finances safe from overshooting our budget. Amazon, I seldom shop there.

@kobesbuddy If that were the case I just wouldn't buy it. I hate it when shipping is way more than the cost of an item.

@lovebuglena They charged $4.00 shipping charge on a used paperback book, that was $3.00

If it’s through amazon like it sounds like then it makes sense for them to ask if you want to use it in there own store it means more money for them. At least they still offer other options as well. Not always when cash back is offered do you get to have choices. With target if you use there circle app the money goes in to your circle app as like a gift card to use in target

@lovebuglena it’s whatever that credit card company has set up they probably has like discount or partner with amazon so there’s probably why they ask first

In this case it was my mom's credit card account and not Amazon itself.

I use Amazon Credit Card to pay the bills. I get 2% of cashback on it. Taken from Amazon Website - Make a Recharge or Bill payment of min. value ?1 using Amazon Pay ICICI card and get 2% reward points as Amazon Pay cashback. I have linked my Mobile bill, LIC Policy, Electricity Bill, My house Rent, My Gas bill from Amazon. And I get Rs 3100 as cashback every year.

I am like you. I put the money into savings and investments. I tend to think not only do most people simply spend it, they in the end don't actually earn anything because they carry a balance.

I can't wait till hubby stops carrying a balance. So much money wasted on interest.

@porwest right now hubby has 0% interest on his capital one card. Come November it will be about 25%. I hope he pays off his balance before then.

It's definitely a nice feature to have to be able to use those rewards on Amazon purchases.

I don’t shop there often. That’s why I don’t get amazon prime. Not worth it.

We don't charge anything unless we have the money to pay it when the bill comes in. Of course Amazon wants you to use cash back in their store.

I don’t charge anything either if I can’t pay it off. It was my mom’s bank that was asking her to do that. Shouldn’t a bank first offer account credit and not to use rewards on amazon?

I let mine build up a while and then use it either to play on the balance or use the card to buy something I need with the credit. Of course, they want you to spend that money on something.

I can understand Amazon wanting you to spend that money on their site. But the first thing the credit card company should ask you is not to use the cash back on Amazon. It should offer a statement credit first.

@lovebuglena no they dont want that the longer and the more money you have on the balance the more money they make in interest.

@Bensen32 But that's if you carry a balance.
