Did you know that Adolph Hitler suffered from chronic flatulence?

I get "news briefings" from the New York Times and another, slightly wackier, source every morning. This morning I learned that Adolph Hitler suffered from chronic flatulence through the 1930s. I knew that he was a vegetarian, and that he wasn't a drinker, but I hadn't known about the flatulence. Apparently, he enlisted the services of a doctor named Theodor Morell (in 1936 or so) who started injecting him with a vitamin supplement. It helped with the flatulence, but over time, Dr. Morell started adding opiates and meth-amphetamine to Hitler's injections, making him a drug addict through his later years. This was the same doctor who gave Hitler and Eva Braun the poison by which they killed themselves in Hitler's "bunker." History is full of odd "back stories," isn't it? Pun intended.

It’s no wonder that Hitler was out of his mind or stark raving mad I should say.

He was stark raving mad before he met Dr. Morell. But it got worse as the end neared.

@RubyHawk Other leaders have had their fallen sycophants take the fall for them. History does seem to repeat itself.

@TheHorse Hitler had to be crazy and why people listened to him I’ll never know. I do know there was cruel punishment for those who didn’t fall in line.

I KNEW it! You still subscribe to "Conspiracy Theories "R" Us" magazine! A lot of vegetables cause flatulence. That's a biological fact. *shrug*

But they're less stinky than carnivore farts.

@TheHorse I wouldn't know about that. I don't make a habit of sniffing farts. Edit to add: You know @vandana7 is going to have a lot of fun on this discussion.

I would get some Beano if I didn't love farting so much. I do curls for my arms and leg lifts for my stomach. I also cycle for my legs. I consider farting to be exercise for my anal sphincter.

@thehorse Can you imagine how insipid life would be without the joy of farting? Doesn’t bear thinking about. We’re meant to have 14 episodes of flatulence each day. I wonder how many Hitler enjoyed, and at what point is it considered excessive?

@TheHorse This must be why I’m euphoric most of the time. This kind of pleasure however offends those not blessed with a wind machine.

I think it is such a waste of resources...spending money on finding trivia like this. I would rather assess the brain waves of criminals ..what triggers the need to do so. Then we would have ways to stop criminal activity.

Yes, I knew that Adolf had that annoying problem. Dr. Morrell, was considered as a quack by Hitler's associates, this proves he had mental problems even before getting his medications.

Some historians have gone as far as to say that WW II was caused by flatulence. When you look into the whole story...You didn't even scratch the surface here...it's not all that far-fetched. What amazes me is that everyone doesn't know these things.

I agree somewhat with you Greg. Presence of gases in the digestive system does lead to discomfort forcing the person to take erratic and lunatic decisions because the person has to find a decent place quickly for quick release.

Hats off to Charles Chaplin, who in his movie The Great Dictator did not make fun of this. Although the movie was full of parody and satire against the Nazi's.
