Do you like Girl Scout Cookies?

I do. And my wife does. We usually buy several boxes each year. Most years I have one or two Girl Scouts in my class but not this year. We do have a troop that meets at our school. Getting our fix of Shortbreads, Thin Mints, and our other favorites won't be a problem. When cookie time comes around, I always think back to the year my mother was cookie chairperson for the troop my sisters were in. At one point, our living room was filled with 1,500 boxes of cookies and I was a growing 15 year old who was not allowed to touch them. I developed a lot of self-discipline that year.

I love them. But I have found thin mint cookies in town for a lot less. That takes care of my fix. Especially since there dont seem to be too many selling here

My aunt was the leader so we would go to her house to pick of our orders and it was crazy to see so many boxes of cookies in one home. Girl Scout cookies are so yummy but I buy a few similar ones at aldis for under $2.

@DWDavis yep but I wonder how much each Girl Scout earns from a box of cookies they sell. I’d be willing to bed the makers of the Girl Scout cookies make a pretty penny as well.

And Aldi's makes the profit. When you buy GS cookies, you help support the cause.

@shaggin Yep. The troops see very little of the profits.

I quit buying them. The price just got steep for 12 cookies in a box. They now have other brands selling the same cookies for a reasonable price. I pick those up when the mood strikes.

@kareng boxes got so much smaller since I was in Girl Scouts as a kid. Smaller boxes and higher prices .

Remember, part of the price of GS cookies goes to support the girls' troop.

I love them and I was a Girl Scout as a young girl and I remember selling a lot of cookies. Thin Mints have always been my favorite.

I like the Thin Mints but the Shortbread is my Number 1. My wife likes the Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Patties.

I just stopped buying them about ten years ago. I can make better cookies at a fraction of the cost.

I make good homemade cookies, too. But part of the point is supporting the cause and having the girls work for the money to pay for the costs of the troop.

@Vikingswest1 It is true that the bakeries the GS work with now rip them off to a large degree by selling the same cookies retail for much less. It wasn't always that way.

@DWDavis My wife led a Troop back in the mid 1990's and I saw how little the troop earned from all those sales. Questionable partnerships have made supporting the GS unlikely.

Pretty and I will usually buy a couple of boxes to support the organization. We like the cookies but can buy them a lot cheaper elsewhere.

I do like them, and I was thinking of putting a post up of the new cookie they have this year, it is some kind of brownie delight, and it does look scrumptious. If it was going to be so cold this weekend, I bet the little cherubs would be out selling this weekend in front of the supermarket.

The new cookie does sound scrumptious. They are called, I believe, Adventurefuls. They are brownie-like with caramel sauce and a pinch of sea salt.

I would normally buy 2 boxes each season - from the first Girl Scout friend who approaches us (I wish we could buy from every Girl Scout we know, but it's just not possible). We like those Tagalongs!

@DWDavis That's nice of you! I know it's for a good cause, but for 5 bucks a box, I just can't get too many of them. I don't even know how much they are now .

@much2say Sadly, it is up to $5 a box. The GS aren't making more, the bakery is.

This year is the first year in ages I've not had at least 1 Girl Scout in my class. Thankfully, our neighbor's granddaughter is a Junior Scout.

I love Girl Scout cookies. The only way to not gain 50 pounds with them is to not order any.

@LadyDuck I was puzzled enough about this to look it up and, yes, it is limited to America because of product export red tape.

@DWDavis - I am pretty sure that it is only an American thing. I see that Jim from Scotland never heard of them. In Italy we never heard of them and same in France when I lived there.

I usually buy a few boxes every year, but I try to avoid too much sugar and willpower is not something I have a lot of. I can resist and un-opened box, but once the box is started it won't take long for me to empty it.
