Are You Careful With What You Share On Here?

I know some people don't like to reveal anything that can be traced to them, their family, or friends, and I'm sure some people don't worry about this and speak their mind regardless.
Maybe you turn off your devices when you're in a bad mood, or if you didn't get any sleep? I feel like even those moments are a slice of your life, but some people don't want that random "slice" to be definitive. Some people might omit things in order to have good relations on here, while some others might have the "Here I am - take me or leave me".
I'm new here, so I'm extra curious what people think on here, so the more replies, the better I can stratify (thanks to a better sample size).

Welcome to the site.
For me it's not always easy to open up with people online due to the various scams we daily come to know about. Some people try to cheat people when they get their details online. One should be careful and should not share things always online.

I know that anything I post online, can eventually be traced if someone wanted to bad enough. Aside from the option to "block" a user, Mylot really doesn't have any privacy settings. So, anything you post can be viewed. My rule of thumb, if I don't want someone finding it, I simply don't post it.

@PinkFloydFan I will occasionally post photos, but not of me nor friends/family. Keeping an extremely low profile works for me

Yeah, I don't coordinate how much I reveal on one site or the other... The only thing I might not post on every place are photos, and just put pictures I got permission from when I published a book.

Someone at a web site I frequented like 20 years ago tried to get me fired because they didn't like me. I was young and just out of college so I was a lot freer with my personal details. Lesson learned.
When I started here several years ago I was careful about what personally-identifying details I shared. I have relaxed that a bit over time. I don't post with my name or picture. I've never mentioned my ex-husband by name. I do mention living at the Jersey Shore and have shared some news articles that can help people further pinpoint the area in which I live. I've written about my job and what subjects I teach. If someone was interested enough to do so then they could figure out where I work at the very least.
I have had many interactions with myLot members in other ways. I've sent $$ to people (unrequested and requested) via PayPal so my name is on that account. Some of them are on my Facebook so they know my name and more details about my life. At least 2 members know my address since they have sent me cards.
No one here knows my actual real legal name though. Those who know my name DO know the name I go by but that is not the name on my birth certificate.

Me too.. I can't remember a time I told someone "Sorry, that's private". It's a liberating feeling to speak freely without a worry.

@PinkFloydFan That's good. So you can tell people most things too?

Sam :)
I don't think I've ever encountered a time where I had to tell a person it was too private.

Great question - and sometimes a tricky balance
I feel that caution is reasonable - you wouldn't go out onto a crowded street and hand out personal information to random passers by - why would you do that on the information highway?
Love this little video about the issue:
It's only a few minutes long - enjoy!

Mylot has been my home for more than a decade. I do share a lot of things, about myself and my family. But not too many information so people could identify exactly where I live. I change my profile pic frequently to update my friends here how Im changing. And it's my personal photo.

I notice that when I'm new, I might give an intro, but I try to learn the unwritten rules of a place, social norms, and when I get comfortable, I can ramble :)

I don't share everything. I imagine a lot of us don't. Some things are private, or you don't want disclose as you feel as if they are too personal. I honestly think that's why food posts are so popular. I share feelings and experiences mostly, but it seems most others do the same. Most of us seem to value our privacy, that's not a bad thing.

. I keep pretty anonymous here . . . so I don't worry so much about being "traced".
