Pizza with anchovies

Yesterday for breakfast we cooked frozen store brand pizza in the oven. We topped it with jarred anchovies that hubby’s mom brought us from her trip to Europe before putting in the oven. It came out pretty tasty. Can’t eat those anchovies by themselves. They are too salty and intense. Had some canned black olives on the side.
Did you ever have pizza with anchovies and what’d you think of it?

@sol_cee What's a bulgogi pizza? And I don't eat pork so the bacon would have to be turkey, beef, or duck.

I don't think I've ever had bacon on a pizza before. Or pineapple either.

It’s definitely not for everyone.

Yes and it is my favorite of all time.
My Sicilian Father used to make the pizza for us and always with anchovies.

I’ve had an anchovies appetizer at a Portuguese restaurant. It was really good. Much different than those jarred ones. Not very salty or intense. Perhaps they were fresh.

No, fish is gross! (I'm also allergic to seafood. *shrug*)

Are you allergic to fish as well or just seafood?

@lovebuglena I could eat freshwater fish if they didn't smell so bad.

I absolutely LOVE anchovies! But I hardly ever eat them, because nobody else I know likes them and no one wants them on their pizzas!

@lovebuglena I have no idea! But I think they make them salty to serve as a preservative. That's my guess anyway.

@moffittjc You mean they salt them so much so they last longer without spoiling?

Why do they make them so salty? Or are they naturally that way?

My Dad just loved anchovies, and taught me to love them, too. He could eat many, but I can only handle one or two because of the salt. They are excellent on pizza, and if you ever make homemade salad dressings, toss in one or two, especially in an Italian dressing. So, so good.

I don't get why they are so salty. Do they make it that way or are they naturally very salty?

Salt from the sea, and then more to preserve them, makes them very salty. If I eat more than one little sliver, I want to drink cold drinks for hours.

Definitely not a good idea to eat the jarred ones by themselves. If use them in dishes they are less intense and salty, at least to the taste.

I don't think I would care for salty little fish. I'll stick to my usual pizza.

I don’t really buy anchovies. Hubby’s mom bought them for us so had to eat them.
