Self driving cars, yay or nay?

I was participating in an interesting study yesterday which was all about self driving cars. There were simulations with a self diving car, whereas you couldn't drive them, but watched videos of their performance and answered questions about whether you would use a self driving feature in that circumstance. Pretty interesting stuff. I chose to always have the vehicle inform me of what it was to do and get my consent. Who ever thought even 20 years ago self driving cars would be on the horizon?

I would be terrified. In spite of the advances, I still prefer human beings.

It would be hard to get used to. I mean what if it malfunctioned and got you into an accident?
. However, they may be no more likely to malfunction than humans do, and probably less.

@snowy22315 Still, I like to talk with the driver so that he doesn´t fall asleep

I am still figuring out how an electric vehicle would fit into my life...one thing at a time!

@snowy22315 Yeah I know the feeling. Like you, not sure how it would but I think we may have a bit of time.

@snowy22315 True, having a car like that would indeed be great to have. That is one of my weakness parking.
But I think I have seen one that could do that but it still needs human intervention. I just forgot the car model.

@rsa101 Yes, I would gladly relinquish control over parallel parking!

I would like to have one that parallel parks.
. That would be awedome.

Driving a car can be a little scary under the best of circumstances.

@Kandae11 I am not sure what to make of this robot world. So far its just to cut costs for rich people and small people pay more and have no jobs. Not sure how that helps society.

No doubt it's interesting, but for now I say no. Glitches (like pedestrians being "accidentally" hit) and current human behaviors (like drivers taking a nap at the wheel because the car is in self driving mode) - in my mind there is still a lot of problem solving to do. Until then - I don't want it.

You are right. I foresee more problems with the people in the self driving vehicles than the actual technology itself.

@snowy22315 I don't want any part of it - not now anyway

Of course you can't always trust other drivers, and maybe not yourself sometimes.

@snowy22315 I know that my husband is against. Many drivers do not even like to let someone drive their car, imagine letting the car drives itself.

There are cars around now that have self driving features, but none that are truly capable of just driving without people they might be several years away yet.

It's exciting, my friend in Mexico had bought a self driving car. She is so thrilled and when came back to her home city in Cagayan de Oro City, her car was waiting her and she seemed confused for her car here is not a self-drive. She didn't drive it here, only her son. That is the effect.

It's an interesting idea but still feels strange. Autonomous vehicles still feels foreign to me.

I’d prefer a conveyor belt-type thing, similar to railroad tracks, that moved the cars along at the same speed, taking all of the guesswork out of it. That way everyone could play with their devices while “driving.” Of course, then they probably wouldn’t want to.

That would only work like in areas where there was no traffic. Lots of situations in more urban settings.

I'd be willing to try one but would still be alert to the possibility of a failure in the AI system. Once they are perfected, they will cut down on a lot of senseless accidents.

I pray that I've expired and been buried six feet under, before I've ever even laid eyes on one of those cars!
