A bit of manual labour today

It’s almost 8.00 am and any minute now Vince’s brother will arrive. Tomorrow, weather permitting, we’re going to pave the area you can see in the photo. It is on the east side of the house. At the end, you can see the door into the garage. It’s a very narrow area and not much use for anything. The air-conditioner is about halfway along and the slabs we’re going to use are stacked on the far side of the A/C unit. We have to level and compact the dirt then lay slabs. The slabs will go round the corner and join to the patio slabs. That’s the plan anyway but we’ll see what happens. Today is just to look at the whole situation and work out a plan of action so to speak. It's such a narrow area I'll probably be relegated to supplying cups of tea. This afternoon, we’re going to a Ukraine benefit concert. We accepted the invitation before we remembered that we’re trying not to go out where there are crowds. But we’ll wear our masks and socially distance as much as possible.

We will certainly be as careful as possible. We would have cancelled but Vince's sister has gone to a lot of trouble to get us the tickets so we'll go but will try to stay safe.

Thats great. I remember when I was about 7 or 8 that my parents would take us on a train to see some of the thing Germany had to offer, dad was stationed there for 3 years.

We haven't been to a concert for ages and ages. We'll probably all be split up but that's okay.

@kaylachan When we got there, they let us sit anywhere so we were able to sit together.

Thanks. They've sorted out the few problems areas so the rest should go easily. That's what we're hoping anyway.

Ukraine surely needs the help. I put on my twitter & facebook posting to help get funds for Ukraine. Good luck, with your home rejuvenation project.

@JudyEv From what I gather, it's a delicate political situation. You see how Russia's Putin's temperament is, forcing Europe, not only Ukrainians from joining NATO. So, all is tippy toeing about it, for WW avoidance.

@JudyEv Yes, Too bad there is no where to put something like a trellis. I was thinking though I wonder if you could squeeze an arbor back there? I don't know how it would look though and that AC unit there would kind of detract from the effect.

@snowy22315 It crossed my mind to have a trellis/arbor. It is a common fence so we're probably not supposed to attach anything to it. The other side of the house is a bit wider so there are a few possible scenarios to think about.

Good luck with the project, and I hope it turns out great! And I hope the Ukraine benefit concert raises some much needed funds for that country. Not only do I hate to see the obvious destruction that war brings, I hate even worse knowing that innocent civilians are suffering needlessly. It's even worse knowing they are being purposefully targeted.

@JudyEv Well, I just paid my taxes for last year, so that money will surely go to buy more missiles and anti-tank weapons for the US to give to Ukraine.

A Ukraine benefit concert, that's a wonderful cause to support! Laying those slabs won't be too hard, I think needs to dry for a day or two.

The weather has cooled off considerably now. We have an electric compactor and a brick-cutter so some of the really heavy work has been avoided. Thankfully it's a very narrow alleyway - 800 cm I think so not even a metre wide.
