I always go to this supermarket because I know where to find such and such. Making my shopping experience a breeze. You know what I mean? Like I’m familiar with the lay out that I’d never get lost or anything and that keeps me coming back. Then I went there yesterday to buy some stuff and the pineapple tidbits were not in their usual aisle anymore. I froze, looked around, doubted for a second if I was in the right supermarket. Slowly I took a step to the cheese aisle and they weren’t there either. I felt the inner sanctum of my brain wanting to explode but I took a deep breath. Huff, huff, pufff. How could they change the freaking arrangement?! Huff, huff, pufff. How could they do that to me?! Huff, huff, puffffff I stayed there longer than my intended shopping time and I wasn’t happy. Am I crazy or do you feel the same way?

I like Aldi because they keep things always at the same place. The others move things around to oblige people to look around, hoping they buy more.

@sol_cee Do you mean why the other stores move things? MARKETING! They consider that if people is obliged to search and look around, they will see things that they could like and buy more.

Haha well, you have to understand that they need to rearrange from time to time to let other products be seen by their customers. If customers are buying the same things and know where to get them there is a chance that the other products, they sell will not be noticed so they need to rearrange things for you to stay longer and discover new items they sell hoping that you buy them too.

I feel lost here in the supermarket. Not used to shop in my brother's place but will soon be my place too.

It certainly adds to your shopping time if the store starts changing the aisles around.

@sol_cee I think it was the job of your parents to explain the location of your "tidbits" when you was still a child.

That has happened recently at my regular grocery store and I hate it! It takes twice as long to get your groceries and you end up going down the same aisles multiple times!

I hate when stores change things around. You have to spend so much more time looking for what you need, however, I guess that is the idea. They do it deliberately. They know the more time you spend in the store the more likely you are to buy.

I feel the same way. Being familiar where to find items in the grocery makes my grocery run faster and most efficient.

Stores move things around all the time because it's been proven that when they change the location of items, customers buy more when they have to look for the items they want. When customers KNOW the location of the items they want, they go straight to those items and never pay attention to anything else in the store.

I felt the same way when my grocery store changed things around. When I moved into my uncle's house, I had to get used to the grocery store near here and I couldn't find the vitamins so I ended up getting my vitamins at Walmart. The next week I found out where the vitamins are.

I don't usually go to malls these days as I have to carry the stuff as I can't carry weight now. I order online.

Recently a supermarket where I used to go changed everything, I lost a lot of time there trying to find what I wanted.

I don't shop in a supermarket, but in a flea market or wet market. Or I order sometimes from online as well. I don't run into this situation hence.

Stores tend to do this from time to time. It's designed to keep shoppers on their toes, and hopefully get them to discover products they would've otherwise ignored. I completely agree. It's a real pain in the butt, and my husband is usually the one to complain, because he acts as my eyes in stores.

This is so relatable, and it really sucks when I can't find something in the grocery store that I'm a regular there, making me go to a completely different place and having a hard time looking for it from one aisle to another.
