Another's trash becomes our treasure

Our district will be having a roadside or verge pick-up in a few weeks and people have started putting out stuff that they no longer have any use for. The residents of our village have a point outside the clubhouse where unwanted material is to be placed. Of course, each household’s contribution creates great interest among other residents and we were just as inquisitive as everyone else.
The point of all this waffle is to say that we picked up two troughs which I’ll use in the garden. I might fill them with soil and plant them or I’ll put pots of plants in them. They are rusting a little bit so Vince will paint the inside with bituminous paint to seal them and we’ll paint the outside a dark grey to match the patio posts.
I’m going to the clubhouse this evening to play cards so I might go a bit early in case there are some other goodies to be had.

@Marty1 Snooker... billiards... pool... hitting hard balls with a long stick called a cue and trying to get the balls into "pockets" along the sides of the table...

Cards is every Thursday but others meet in one of the houses on a different day. I go to craft most Mondays, Zumba and a free movie on Tuesday and there is a Happy Hour each Friday. So there is plenty of activity. There is also yoga, meditation and snooker on other days.

Great for your community to have all of these. Putting in stuff that you are not using can be helpful to others.

@JudyEv yes exactly. Here, we have a FB group in the community, some people are asking in a post if we have things that we are not using anymore.

@jobelbojel That's an excellent idea. There are a lot of such groups here and it's a great idea.

@bunnybon7 My back seems to really hate planting seedlings in the ground. I'm battling to plant a punnetful before my back really starts hurting.

I love those. They will look great when you are done. Hope you find more goodies. I love that way of putting it in one area.

@JudyEv I just use pie pans as they are cheap to buy. But the saucers would be prettier.

@wolfgirl569 It's surprising how much things can cost. I'm a great believer in casing out trash heaps!

@JudyEv - They look very attractive and I am sure they will give you a nice place to put your plants. Best of all, it is easier to take care of plants in a raised planter than getting down on your hands and knees to work in a garden!

@JudyEv - Yes, I find that it hurts my back and knees when I get down on my knees to pull weeds or work in my flower bed. I can't eliminate that flower bed, but if I decide to get more plants I will have to put them on shelves or raised beds!

@DeborahDiane Raised garden beds are a great invention but they take a lot of soil unless you have a division partway up perhaps.

That's nice, repurposing things. You got some gems there, saving you money too, just getting them from the roadside. We have bulky items pickup by our City and County, so things the neighbors don't want any longer put outside under our stairs. I've gotten chairs, which is expensive & inaccessible for me a bus rider. But I found it before bulky items pickup got them.

Exactly! Before rain or people get to them, hurriedly for good finds, essential.

Unfortunately after decades of having pickup, they no longer have that service. You must take your items to a collection point. No more perusing through everyone's castoffs. It was always interesting to see people stop in the street and pick up someone's trash to be made into their treasure.
