Eating dinner with vermin? No thanks!

I really wanted to go to a new sushi restaurant we've not been to before. I looked at their menu and found some things I was very much looking forward to trying. Last Saturday, I went on Yelp to see when this restaurant closes and where it's located. And that's when I stumbled upon the health score given to the restaurant. I didn't even know that information is displayed on Yelp. The health score the restaurant received after their March inspection was a C. You want it to be an A, though B is ok. I clicked to find out why such a low score. There were six violations. One of them mentioned that the place is not vermin proof and that the conditions of the place can attract vermin to the premises and even allow them to exist. After reading that no way am I going to eat at this restaurant. Not now, not ever. Unless maybe the health score changes to an A at some point after another inspection. Weird thing is that the place has an average rating of 4.5 stars from customers. Five is the highest it can be. Someone even said that it's their favorite sushi spot. I wonder if anyone actually spotted any vermin in the restaurant while dining there or thought that this place should be boycotted because of their health score.

Just because a place "can allow vermin to exist" doesn't mean there have ever been vermin sighted there. Now, if the violation had stated that mouse or rat droppings had been found, and if they had been found, that would have been on the list, then there haven't been vermin in the restaurant.

After reading your comment, now that I think about it, the description of the violations was worded differently the first time I looked at it. I remember seeing the word mice and droppings. Unless I am losing my mind, which I hope is not the case.

That's funny that you mention eating with vermin, as this past Friday night my daughter and I went to a professional hockey game in Tampa, and before we went into the arena we stopped by a food truck area to get something to eat. We were sitting at an outdoor table right on the water (Tampa Bay), and out pops this cute little mouse from the landscaping next to where we were sitting. I laughed and told my daughter that I hoped it didn't mean the food trucks had an infestation!

@lovebuglena The outdoor seating where we were at was a good ways away from the food trucks. I suspected that the mouse we saw was probably pretty content on eating scraps that people dropped from the tables. All it had to do was pop out of the bushes in the landscaping and grab scraps of food and pop right back in.

Hopefully, it didn't. Don't want to mess with that. Or get sick.

@RebeccasFarm The violations were definitely re-written since I first saw them. I guess to make them more presentable lol.

Yeah, I can. I wonder if mice or any other creatures were actually found on the premises.

I guess some of those that gave a high score don't know about the vermin.

Or maybe the vermin were never there.

It just said that conditions might attract vermin. Maybe none were seen. I would have second thoughts about going there too. Have a good weekend.

The original description made me not want to go there. This one seems like a re-write. Sounds a bit better.

I would be hard pressed to want to eat there with such knowledge. However, having been in commercial pest control in a past life I can tell you one thing... I don't care how fancy the place is...DON'T GO IN THE KITCHEN! You will never eat anywhere again. I swear to you. Five star restaurants are FILTHY! lol

How about Michelin star ones? To be honest, I never want to go into a kitchen of a restaurant, no matter how fancy. I feel I may be disappointed.

@porwest Well, my kitchen ain't that clean lol. Don't remember the last time I washed the floor, or cleaned all the counters with more than just a wet bounty.

@lovebuglena They are all less than you would imagine, that much I know. There is not a single restaurant kitchen in the world cleaner than your own kitchen. Just the truth. That being said, food manufacturing facilities and food processing plants are nearly pristine. Go figure.
