Elon Musk Will PROBABLY Own Twitter

It is not often that I necessarily agree with the antics of Elon Musk, the CEO and founder of Tesla and Space X. I mean, what can you say about a guy who justifies shooting his car into space just because he can?
But he IS a brilliant guy. There is no denying that.
But I like his stance on Twitter and on free speech, and I am glad to see that someone like Musk is using his money to support it and stand up strongly for it.
It will be very interesting to watch which direction this whole Twitter thing goes now that he owns 9.2% of the company, and just announced he wants to buy the entire company and take it private.
In his letter to the board he did mention that depending on how things go he may have to "reconsider his position as a shareholder" of the company.
Some might suggest that means he might pull out. I happen to think it means he will simply engage in a hostile takeover. He does not need to own the entire company. If he owns even just 25% of it...
It is essentially his to do whatever he wants with it.

This is what I don’t understand about “millionaire envy.” It’s his money. He earned it. Who are we to tell him what he can do with HIS money? I wish people were half as worried about what CONgress is doing with OUR money as they are what Musk or any other billionaire does with his!

Well said

We know what Congress is doing with it, wasting it on stupid policies which hurt the poor and middle class.

@FourWalls I get bent about this sort of thing as well. It is not a popularly held view, but I happen to think that the rich are probably THE most important people in the world for what they ultimately create and offer to society as a whole.
I mean, at the end of the day they invent things that we want and need and of course make the things we want and need, and make it easy for us to GET the things we want and need, and that in turn provides for another big want and need. JOBS! Jobs that offer us wages to enjoy life, pursue happiness, feed and clothe ourselves and keep a roof over our head. Not only that, the businesses they create, if publicly traded of course, also affords us the opportunity to participate and get rich too.
"Rich envy" in general to me simply dismisses riches for all it really offers to us, even though most of us will never achieve the level of riches a lot of these guys do. But even then should we feel perturbed by that? We also did not do the things these guys did to get where they are, so who are we to point fingers and demonize them and complain about unfairness?
Nothing unfair about it. If one wants to be Elon Musk, go invent something that changes the world and the riches are all yours. lol Not a single rich guy ever got rich by complaining about how rich he wasn't.

I'm rooting for him. It would be nice to have a social platform where everyone's opinion can be expressed and not censored because it is opposite of socialist views. Let the followers decide for themselves what is disinformation and not be led like sheep by what the board of directors thinks. If they are going to act as arbiters and editorialists, then they should be government regulated. I'm not a twitter person nor Facebook either, but I do detest these businesses attitude toward free speech in a country where it is supposed to be one's right!

I have a Twitter account but do not use it. I had it set up that whatever FB updates I post would go to Twitter automatically. I don't think that exists anymore.
So if Musk owns all of Twitter people's tweets and accounts won't be removed like they are now because of what people post?

It really isn't. He bought the shares on the open market to gain his 9.2%. And basically in order to offer a tender offer you simply write a letter to the board and explain what you want to do and how much you are willing to pay. The board and shareholders have to approve it of course. So, it is not automatic. But if you are a guy like Musk who has the money and can make the offer...
All Twitter has to do is accept the offer and it is a done deal so long as it all goes through and there are no anti-trust concerns, which in this case there would not be.

@sharonelton lol. Yes. Maybe now the stock might actually be worth something. Mostly, through the years, I have never had any interest in owning the company. That stance continues for me now.

@porwesIfWow ! l never thought a simple comment would have resulted in such a long and windy comment. If you have some kind of axe to grind don't grind it near me, because l am not easy to crush.

@Kandae11 I have no axe to grind. lol. And I did say in the comment, "(not saying that was the undertone of your comment). Nonetheless I feel it is important to remind people." In other words, I simply used your comment to make a further comment on the state of MOST people to demonize and vilify the rich AND somehow expect them to just give all their money away when they already contribute enormously to society.
As for crushing people, that is never my aim. Setting people straight, however, is fair game. lol.

Elon Musk is actually extremely philantropical, having donated tens of billions of dollars over the years supporting a long list of causes. He even recently donated $5.7 billion in Tesla shares to charity. Beyond that he is also a part of the "Giving Pledge" group of billionaires who have committed to donating most of their wealth to charity rather than pass it on in their wills.
Beyond that, there is always an underpinning of "contempt" for the wealthy that seems to exist (not saying that was the undertone of your comment). Nonetheless I feel it is important to remind people that the world's rich happen to be some of THE most important people in society, and what they give to the world in their contribution to society FAR outweighs sending a physical check to any organization.
They invent things that we want and need, and make things that we want and need, and that makes our lives more enjoyable and easier. They create businesses that provide jobs that feed us, clothe us, house us, and provide for a fulfilling and rewarding life. And the businesses they create, many of them that are publicly traded on stock markets ALSO give everyone the opportunity to invest in these great businesses and potentially join the ranks of the rich and super rich.
We should never be ungrateful or unkind to the rich. Without them we would be living in caves.

I am getting the popcorn ready for this one. It will be something to watch for sure. I like his attitude about things that I have heard. Don't know a lot about him. Except his money of course. Sounds great to me. Although I never get on there to waste my time.
