I May Do Some Purging Today

There are a lot of discussions, when I think of it, that really have no "long term value." Now, granted, there may be a good many here who might say, "Well Porwest, NONE of your posts have ANY value."
Fair enough.
But a lot of old "what I did today" posts or "what I had for dinner" posts and other such nonsense might be better left to the delete button than taking up valuable space on this site's servers.
Besides, going back is sometimes fun and sometimes I find old posts I missed some comments on that I can go back and make sure I respond to.
Do you ever do any purging of nonsense?

There were several people going through my old posts in the past few months... I thought it was funny to talk about old stuff again.

@porwest Don't do that on vanny's discussion! She'll start deleting them if you try to make a zombie walk. There used to be a couple of other people who would get nasty about it if you touched a discussion that was more than three days old. I was blocked by them for doing that. (It never did make sense when they told me those were "too old" to talk on anymore.
)
And Cat from Africa told me several times that I needed to get off a discussion someone else and I were talking on and move to one of her new discussions. How do you continue a discussion that way? I mean, yeah, I guess I could do that but why?

I tend to go to older posts quite a lot, although I will pick one member and do what I call a "blitz." lol. It IS fun, and even more fun to see that there was so much fun stuff to talk about that was sadly missed.
If only anyone went to Most Recent Activity more often, doing this might even breathe new life into older posts.
But it is what it is.

@DaddyEvil I would be very surprised if people got mad for doing this. Don't we WANT our discussions to be read? Even the old ones?

I never get rid of anything I post here. I see no reason to do it, especially since there is no storage limit on here.

@porwest To me it seems a waste of time and very time consuming, especially since you can't just sort or filter the posts by date and then mass delete.

@lovebuglena It doesn't take me much time to do it. I go in and hit the delete button and voila...I am done. lol. 3 seconds at best.

No, you can still go back to 2016 and see what I think of Steve Goodman if you’re interested.
Of course, no one was interested then so I’m sure they aren’t interested now, but it’s still there.

@porwest — he wrote “City of New Orleans,” and that’s him doing the Cubs victory song “Go Cubs Go.”

@FourWalls Oh. Hmm. Still drawing a blank. Maybe if I was a Cub's fan? lol

I have never deleted any of my old posts, and have found that every once in a while someone will read and comment on a very old discussion of mine. Often in those instances I’ll have to go back and re-read the post and comments so that I can remember what the hell it was that I was talking about!

That can be the challenge, knowing exactly what was said that is being responded to. I have to do the same thing just to make sure my response back at least makes sense...
Even sometimes my best efforts still leave some scratching their heads though. lol

I used to. Sometimes members will go back as much as a year and comment on my posts. It would be really impossible to go back now that I have 1.6 thousand posts.

There are some that I don't mind keeping around and there ARE members here, although they are few and far between, who actually do scroll down.
I have a little secret. Sometimes I leave some comments left unresponded to on purpose just so when I do go back I can try to bring the post back to life a bit.
Hardly ever works since almost no one goes to Most Recent Activity. Oh well. lol

Well, you see I have folders of all my posts. Not the ones that only have short term value but long term, Occasionally when enough time has passed I combine posts about certain topics and revamp them then post them on sites where I also get money, Like some music posts about certain songs I can combine in one long past and put it up on Vocal along with YouTube videos and some more pennies come in,

I never think to delete any old posts. Maybe I should.

My dear sir, were I to purge all the nonsense what would I have left? I can only begin to imagine the time it would take.
Seriously, it is a good idea to purge posts long past their relevant timeframe.
