No More Work At Home

United States

I hears on the news, that the work at home era is nearly over. Now people have to drive and use public transportation. The cost of fast food is up, even child care. So why does working from home have to end? I mean look at the price that had to be paid. Some individuals were fortunate to work from home before the pandemic, but what about the ones who weren't able to. Everywhere now are so many challenges. I've even heard rent is going up. I don't have to pay rent, but food and gas, is bad enough. I've been thinking, it really won't be long before, it will be cold again, and will have to purchase gas to stay warm. You know sometimes, I wished I could make a Teepee, the Indians made it big enough, they would a fire in there and stay warm.. Just a thought. Have a nice day. b

That’s a shame. Can you imagine how much money companies could save by keeping remote work? Instead of paying thousands of dollars in rent a month they could rent a meeting room at a Holiday Inn once a week for in-person meetings. I’m surprised that companies are willing to drop the remote working. I guess maybe the notion of a proposal being written by someone in their underwear instead of business attire bothers them?

@kobesbuddy — that is the problem with remote working. It is hard to get in a “working mood” when the dogs run around and the TV’s on at home. I worked on a project for the Country Music Hall of Fame remotely, and it was tough. I had to set aside time (in a hiding place away from Freckles) to work.

@FourWalls I tried to run a home business, doing daycare. My supposed friends(yah right) would drop their child off, to play with my daycare kids! Another time, I did online work. People asked, 'why do all of us slave each day working, while you sit on your as* at home watching television?' I was shamed, even though it wasn't the truth!

Some bank employees working from home, aren't doing their job. We found that out, when Jay applied for a car loan. The girl yawned then replied, 'you don't qualify.' Jay went to our regular bank and we were approved in fifteen minutes! What?

I have been a remote worker since 2015 - I had to work hard to get the concession - and I encouraged my sister to see if she could work from home too. She wasn't converted until she went through COVID - she preferred it so much that now that her company is expecting her to return to her office, its a deal breaker and she's looking for a company that will allow her to work remotely.

That is so great, I don't blame her I hope she finds something. I have a friend who does in home care work, she says she pays $150.00 a week for gas.

I think so too, so much easier, and cheaper for the workers.

I've often envied the Indians and the Eskimos. They live so simple, hunt for food, cook over a fire. Huddle together to stay warm. What a beautiful though, living without the high stress level! Some learned about family togetherness during Covid, more bonding. This was a wonderful lesson!

@popciclecold I guess they do pretty much the same thing, build a fire and have a chimney venting.

@popciclecold Did your workplace say you have to go into work or did they say you can still work at home? I am asking because I hear many things and not sure they are right so I would say it is up to the workplace if one can continue to work at home or not.

No, I saw it on the news. That a lot of companies are having workers come back to work,, and workers not want to. I retired, so I no longer work

@popciclecold Good thing you retired or you might have been forced to return to work in the workplace and not be able to work at home anymore.

I think there have been several studies that weigh in on a certain value added element to their workforce being at work. If companies thought they could save money and get the same bang for their labor buck I think we can all bet that companies would do exactly that. Despite what most people say about how much they are doing when they are working from home, I think people like working from home because they don't have to work as hard and there is no one there to ensure they do.

@popciclecold One thing I know full well about businesses is that if there is ever a cost advantage to doing something, they will do it. If there isn't one they won't. So one has to assume there is not a cost advantage to keeping people working remotely in certain circumstances.

Some of us are back in the office setting. And yes, the company is eyeing full capacity back onsite. I was able to save rent since I gave up my apartment. If I go back, it is another deposit and advance payment again.

I think that really sucks. The way the covid looks in China, they need to wait. Its terrible over there. Lockdown is serious.

I don't buy that at all. Our son has been with his employer for 8 years and was hired solely to work from home. His arrangement has nothing to do with the pandemic and he will not go to an office, they do not have one in his area. I work from home and have the option of returning to the office, but that is just an option. Our cities have alot of vacant office spaces which they are all trying to find new renters for.

Many were not fully doing their jobs I am going to guess. Lots of people need to be supervised to get things done.

Many people have adjusted to working from home and some here will continue to do that. But the government is keen to get people back into the CBD (Central Business District) as shops are finding it hard to continue without lunchtime workers shopping there.

Many of these price issues could be resolved if our government would stop blaming the oil companies and let them increase oil production. Every decision they have made has caused inflation to worsen but they don't care about middle- and lower-class people who cannot afford these prices increases. Oil and gas impact everything in our economy and you just can't eliminate it. Unfortunately, they are out of touch with what is important to most Americans. Being able to afford to heat their homes and buy food. If this continues many more will be living like the homeless and the Indians for that matter, whatever they can find off the land.
