Remember This Movie?

Remember the movie "Soylent Green" with Charlton Heston and Edward G. Robinson made in 1973? It's a sci-fi futuristic look at the world in 2022. Fruit, vegetables, and meat are extinct and society's leaders have had to find a way to feed its teeming masses. When Edward's character is about to die the hero played by Charlton Heston finds out what the food is that people are getting. The movie leaves you with an ugly feeling. Of doom maybe. In my roaming around the internet this morning I found an ad for this new meal substitute. Its name is Soylent. I don't think I will be getting any time soon.

I remember the movie... And Pretty likes Soylent. (She tests different drinks and writes about them on a blog online.) When she bought the first cans of it, she reminded me about the movie.

Oh, you've been there then. I like the Glucerna Rich Chocolate Protein Drink. Such a good flavor.

@DaddyEvil ......I'm not even diabetic. I learned about this drink(and snack foods) from a co-worker when I was still working. Helped in that afternoon slump I always seemed to get.

@celticeagle There are more and more drinks/foods made specifically for diabetics. And yes, a lot of them have a delicious flavor.

I do remember that movie, but first saw it many, many years ago of course. It's a bit cheesy by today's standards but still a great movie. But yes, a very ominous look at a future I am glad is not the one we are living in.

Yes, cheesy indeed. I saw it again a couple of years ago. I like Edward G. but cannot stand Charlton.

@celticeagle I liked Charlton as an actor. But I do wonder if he would be as successful in today's film world as he was back then.

I don't think we'll survive our planet if all plants and animals die out. The scary part is that it could happen.

My husband and I watched that movie years ago and it did leave us with a sentiment of gloom.
