But I finished spreading mulch around the base of my red bud tree. Some years ago we put down weed barrier with mulch on top but since then the barrier has been getting blown about and the mulch didn't look good either. I started this project just before lunch and did about half. But, it was too hot to continue so I went out after supper and just about finished that job. I might add more mulch to the outside perimeter to cover the dirt. I'd forgotten that I took next week off on vacation at my cashiering job so we could catch up on window jobs. I'll get more weeding done some of those nights I'm sure. The small green you see are ferns. They have yet to get very big because when it gets hot they get burnt looking. I keep hoping they'll survive longer one year.

I have some ferns under the holly tree, they survive well during the winter.

@MarshaMusselman - Yes, they do well through the summer, they are in a shaded area.

I was going to say you should have pulled those weeds before mulching...but they are ferns of course. Looks good.

I was able to get most of the weeds out. I'm sure there will be more in a few years since the barrier is not as good as it once was

@porwest I know I have more on my roll but I don't remember where it was put. Plus it might be hard for me to place it without the wind carrying it away.

It's good sometimes to do half a chore at a time, especially as you get older.

Especially then and I can neither stoop or bend my knees enough to get lower to the ground so I do the no-no if bending from the waste.. sometimes I take a chair outside to sit on if I'm doing a lot of planting.

@JudyEv I'd have to redo all my gardens too. At present I'll use a hoe for the most part other than when I'm planting.

@MarshaMusselman Raised gardens are good if you have trouble bending but they take a lot of soil.

We always have work to do. If I don't procrastinate to much maybe I'll finally get more done this summer.

I love seeinig all the projects you work on! I need to go through and catch up on your posts. Did you ever finish the kitchen?

Yes, the countertops were installed in January. The only thing left to do is get our table from the living room to the kitchen. But, it's loaded with stuff and I need to find homes for those things or get rid of some which is a work in progress. I'll try to find a pic of the finished kitchen. Rather than looking for just a pic I found this post with the pic on it. The far right shows the colorful towels I'll use to brighten up the blacks and browns.
Our kitchen is completed finally. Now's the hard part, figuring out where everything goes. In this collage of pictures I only have the completed project. If...

@thislittlepennyearns I like the towels too. I also planned on having flowers in the room more often but haven't bought any yet

@CarolDM I need to try to plant all my bulbs this fall and hope I have the time to do so. With that in mind I may want to wait before I put mulch down everywhere.

I was busier other years when I was still full time and working more with windows. Right now the window business came to a halt because my ladder person has his baby two weeks every month and he's not found a sitter yet.

Weeding . I could not keep up with it this year - in our heat some of the weed is already dying. Been working on the mulch too but there's not a lot of time here to get it all done. That's great you'll have next week to get some things done - the time will help. I see the ferns . . . I hope they do well!

@MarshaMusselman Let's hope those ferns thrive out there! Hope you get that weeding and mulching done . . . I'm going to try to get some done today.

Even when I water the ferns they don't survive the summer heat for some reason. Maybe once they grow taller they will do better. As far as weeding goes I've had a pile of mulch for at least for years and haven't spread it around because of my jobs. This is the first time I'm making a dent in the pile.

That's great you did all the weeding. My husband usually does that in our yard.

My husband never did but he used to mow the lawn. I'm the flower person. I probably got it from my mom who had a large raised flower bed by the driveway. My husband can no longer mow though as he has a prosthetic.

I will come and go I'm sure. Some days or weeks more often while others not so much as I still have much to accomplish at home with the weeding and other things in the house.
