Update 5/19/22 - Spectrum Sucks!

Our last cable bill included the information that our cable services for our TV, phone and internet would be going up about $20. There was also a notation that our promotional discount was ending June 1. With the $20 increase our bill was up to $248.60. I was enraged!!! I spent 50 minutes on the phone with a Spectrum rep, trying to lower our bill. She informed me that the packages that we have are discontinued; and a lot of Spectrum's programming is now "ala carte". The figure she finally came up with was about $20 less. She also gave us a year of HBO for free. If she hadn't done that, the bill would have been even higher. Imagine my dismay when I received the confirming email; and the total per month was $266.52!!!!!!! I will have to get back on the phone with them; and I am also looking into going back to satellite with DISH. At least prices will be lower for 2 years; and they have some pretty cool perks. Have you had this problem with your satellite/cable provider? Photo Credit: Pixabay

I bought an indoor antenna--$32---I bought a USB cable---$8---I have Internet for $10 a month---get Netlix for $10.00 and Amazon Prime for $8.99 (senior discounts on both)--bought a 50" smart fire stick TV on sale for $275 at Best buy--I now pay a total of $20 a month to watch TV 24/7---would never go back to cable!!

@GreatMartin Thanks for the info.. The problem I ran into is that none of the streaming services carried my husband's Military Channel. :-D

Wow, not sure how much my mom pays for all three but I don't think that high...sorry to hear that. We don't have cable. And we just have a cell phone. We pay for internet which is much too high I believe

@LindaOHio That is for sure. We had to get new internet because the old company was doing upgrades but they couldn't do them here. The new internet is double the price of the old. We can pay less but we don't get unlimited data...so we are paying for the unlimited plan.

@MommyOfEli2013 Spectrum is $79; and I think that's outrageous.

Oh yes, I still have that problem, but my ire is directed towards Cox Communications. It's no wonder people are cutting cable. Unfortunately, the channels and programs I'm interested in are on blasted cable.

@AmbiePam I know what you mean. You are forced to stay with cable because of the channels that they carry. And one company is the same as the other because they all charge the same.

The amount they charge is crazy. My mom ended up paying about $248 for triple play. I got rid of one cable box (they had 2) and got rid of the Russian channel and last bill was $212 or so. (Her account is on my name) I hope the next one won't be higher but it may be as the last bill had a partial charge credit. Even $212 is a lot. But her account is still Time Warner services. Best thing for her would be for me to close my account and have her open one on her name. The rep said it will cost way less than what she is paying now. The account in my house is just Internet + cable and our total is now over $200/month. That's a lot. They can't really do anything to lower the bill. Hubby wants to get rid of it.

"They can't really do anything to lower the bill. " You can!!! Please see my comment to Linda---I have not had cable for over a year and I pay $20 for 2 streaming services---0 for local stations--it is easy!! IF I can do it anyone can---believe me--and I will help in anyway I can.

@LindaOHio Wait! How did it get from 248 to 262? Is that because they added some premium channels?

@lovebuglena That's why I started checking around. $262 is ridiculous...but they all are expensive. They keep it the same as the other providers so you don't have much of a choice.

@LindaOHio That really is bad. I can understand that you would be enraged. If like HBO will be more to pay for it than Specrum? I had a cable channel and it was terrible and they showed the same thing over and over again and did not know how to fix anything and when Netflix came to Israel I got it and it is cheaper too. I hate when people make mistakes like that and tell you one thing and then do another. That is horrible. That is so frustrating. Good luck and I hope things get straightened out.

I had an issue with Dish, I helped a woman I worked for to get Dish, after Direct TV, Well we had to use my email address. They would turn mind Dish off by mistake. It was rough for awhile we finally got it straight. I thought my bill was high, I pay 161.55 a month. I get a lot of channels.

If you're a customer, they will take your complaint call and help you. If you're not a customer...you're out of luck! HOWEVER, I found a telephone number for the Corporate office!! We'll see if I get anywhere now.

I curse every month when I get my cable bill. I think all providers are basically the same with price gouging and increases. I keep talking about getting rid of my cable and just picking the streaming channels we watch.

They start us off really good and then slowly keep lowering the discounts until they stop altogether. I know some people keep switching between FIOS and Spectrum every few years and that's how they save. I don't want to keep switching back and forth. But the prices are crazy.

@Marilynda If I were a billionaire I would start a new cable company and keep the rates at least $75, if not more, less than everyone else!

@lovebuglena That is so true. People switch for 2 years until the promotional period is up and then switch again. That's OK except for changing all my email addresses.

I talked to xfinity about lowering my bill but couldn’t make a deal. I took a box back I wasn’t using and that took about 8.00 off my bill.
