New Disney Roller Coaster - Part 1

Disney World is putting their final touches on their new roller coaster at Epcot in Orlando, FL. The new roller coaster is an indoor ride based on the movie Guardians of the Galaxy. It's called Cosmic Rewind. The ride officially opens on Friday, May 27th, but annual pass holders had the opportunity to apply for sneak preview passes, and I was lucky enough to score some for May 19th. It appeared it would be a fiasco from the beginning, because although my son and daughter are both linked to my Disney account, I could only select my son and I for the preview passes. For some reason there is a glitch in Disney's system that doesn't allow me to make reservations for my daughter. And worse, my son couldn't even make it to the sneak preview on the 19th. So I called Disney to see if they would transfer my son's pass to my daughter, who probably out of the three of us wanted to ride it the most. No luck. They told me I would have to go to Guest Services at the park to try and get it sorted out. So on a chance, I took my daughter with me to Epcot, not knowing if she could get a pass to ride the sneak preview. We went to Guest Services at the entrance to the park, and they told me there was nothing they could do, and that I would have to go to Guest Relations over by the Spaceship Earth ride. So off I went to Guest Relations. When I got there, they also told me there was nothing they could do to help me either, I would have to go to the Guest Experiences kiosk over by the ride. Wait...you mean to tell me that Disney has a Guest Services, Guest Relations, and Guest Experiences department? Ugh. So off I went to Guest Experiences. And of course, the queue was about 100 people long. Great, this is going to be fun I thought to myself. So I joined the line, and based on what I was seeing of the people in the queue ahead of me, most--if not all--were leaving disappointed. Must have not been able to get their issues sorted out. This was not leaving me feeling great about our chances of getting a preview pass for my daughter. I figured I had a couple of options I was going to shoot for: 1) Get them to transfer my son's preview pass to my daughter so her and I could ride the roller coaster together; 2) Get them to scan my son's Magic Band (annual pass ticket) to make it seem like he was physically at the park and then allow my daughter to use his pass to get in; 3) If they refused to budge, let my daughter take my Magic Band and use it to ride the coaster while I waited for her outside. Stay tuned to part 2 to see what the outcome was. Any guesses so far as to what you think would happen? Have you heard of this new ride at Disney, and are you a fan of indoor roller coasters?

It's good you'd thought up a couple of options. I'll go for No. 1 and wish you luck (which is pretty pointless seeing it would be all over now! )

@JudyEv I think Jeff is in Disney Jail and didn't succeed in getting his daughter into the park! I hope she isn't still waiting for him somewhere!

You were accused of committing fraud through the Disney Guest Pass system and are now writing this discussion from Disney Jail. I have a feeling Mickey is NOT a nice Warden.

@moffittjc Can't you just picture Mickey as the Warden? OMG! He'd be really good at it, too!

Oh boy, that would not be a good situation at all. Thankfully, I've never had to resort to committing fraud in order to get what I want from Disney. Well, at least as far as they know! haha

@JESSY3236 It really is. Like nothing I had ever ridden before. Disney has really upped the game on thrill attractions with the opening of their latest rides. The technology used in these rides is nothing short of spectacular.

@moffittjc I had rode a ride at pavilion at a lake here that would go backwards some days. And supposedly an old ride at our amusement park here would go backwards at night. Sadly I never rode that ride.

Due to the stars and planets being in perfect alignment, luck was with me that day and both of us were able to ride the new roller coaster.

I haven't heard of the new ride; and I'm not a fan of ANY roller coasters! My guess would be that you couldn't solve your problem because I've been having a customer service dilemma of my own...but I hope they did solve the problem for you.

I will tell you, Disney's customer service has gone downhill tremendously in the past 5 years or so. I know part of it is due to Covid and the fact that they are tremendously understaffed, but that still should be no excuse for not providing the exceptional Disney customer service. On the flip side, I don't put the blame entirely on Disney. Over the past years people have changed, and not for the better. Everyone seems entitled these days, acts selfishly, treats workers like dirt, and demand that all the rules be bent to their favor. So I can totally understand the pushback from Disney cast members and workers everywhere in general. I have always believed in respect, kindness and friendliness when dealing with problems and situations. Sometimes I'll make someone's day just by saying something as simple as "I'm sorry you just had to deal with that rude and angry customer. I promise I'm not going to be like that, even if you can't help me solve my problem." Most of the time that gets the person to immediately be on your side, and then at that point the WANT to help you with your problem. I don't understand how people think being rude, obnoxious, insensitive and downright mean is going to get them what they want.

@moffittjc I worked in customer service for years and used to be even more sweet the angrier that the customer got. Customer service in this country has deteriorated since what I remember in the 50s and 60s. BTW, I'm glad you found Sarah!

What a fiasco. Disney is certainly not what it used to be. This is most unfortunate. Never could handle the roller coasters. My brother used to drag me on them and I would keep my eyes closed.

Disney’s service has gone downhill drastically. If you don’t like coasters, you definitely want to avoid this one. Many people have been posting on social media that they had to take motion sickness medicine to be able to ride it. I was pretty dizzy when I got off the ride, and that never happens to me.

@CarolDM In defense of Disney, the only way you can get into the parks now is by making a reservation in advance. No longer can people just drive or fly there and walk up and buy a ticket. And they have cut capacity to about 75% of what it used to be in their days leading up to the pandemic. Yes, the parks are crowded, and they are hitting capacity every day now, but it is not as crowded as some of the worst days I've seen in the past. I really hope they keep the reservation system in place, as it not only makes the experience better for guests, it allows Disney to control and manage attendance better. And as far as roller coasters go, most of the Disney ones are family-friendly and tame compared to other theme parks' coasters. I hope that someday you get a chance to go again.

@moffittjc I would take a hard pass on this one. I really hate to see what is happening at Disney. I wanted to return again one day, but now I am not as eager.

I am not a fan of roller coasters, and have no desire to Disney. My recent experience with most customer service things is that the customer is never the one who benefits.

I love roller coasters!!! I guess having major theme parks in my backyard (Disney, Universal, Sea World, Busch Gardens) helped grow my love of these thrill rides!

It sounds like their philosophy is, “We’re stinking Disney. We can beat you up and you’ll be like Kevin Bacon’s character in Animal House (“Thank you, sir! May I have another?”).” I have a lot of friends who are Disney pass holders (one of whom lives in Massachusetts!), and I understand that. But, for me, the corporate behemoth of today isn’t the Disney World I went to in 1974. I don’t boycott them because they support gay rights (as conservatives claim) or because they don’t support gay rights (as liberals claim). I boycott them because, to me, they’re an overpriced all-consuming blob (yes, the kind Steve McQueen fought) that lost Walt’s vision a long, long time ago. I understand that people love it, but it is not my cup of tea. You give me a hundred and thirty five bucks (the cost of parking and admission for one day at Disney World), turn me loose in any city in Florida (especially St. Augustine), and I’ll have a far better time than I would standing on line for a ride while everyone goes past me because they bought a preferred rider pass.

I 100% agree with everything you say! Disney has lost it's way for sure. I've been a pass holder for almost 25 years, so for our family it's just been part of our family tradition. I ask my kids every year if they want to give up our passes, if they don't like the parks anymore, or if they feel they are too old to enjoy the experience. They are always adamant that they want to keep the passes and keep going. So I renew them every year. If I were to give them up now, I wouldn't be able to buy passes again for the foreseeable future, because Disney has stopped selling them. Only existing pass holders can renew. And, since I've been a pass holder for so many years, what I pay for a pass is pennies on the dollar from what most people pay, since I get a steep renewal discount every year. Before they stopped offering passes to the public, the cost of the highest-tier pass (what we have) was $1200. That is ridiculous, and I would never pay that much for a pass! Disney just keeps raising prices, while at the same time cutting costs and services. People complain like crazy about it, yet the parks are hitting capacity every single day. Disney could triple the prices and people would still be lined up to pay. In general, Disney has lost their magic, and lost their way. Walt would be ashamed of what his parks have become. But I don't let that stop me from the magic I experience there with my family. And by the way, I would definitely choose a fun day in St. Augustine over a day in Disney! lol

@moffittjc — heck, look how much fun I had walking around Cedar Key earlier this year! The pass thing seems to be like season tickets to the Packers. People will that privilege to their children because it’s such a hot commodity.

@FourWalls Yes! That's exactly like the Packers season tickets! Only at Disney you can't give them to other family members. But you can keep renewing (at least for now). It's no secret that Disney's CEO Bob Chapek hates pass holders and the pass holder system, and if it was solely up to him he would get rid of them. But he knows that it's the pass holders who keep Disney propped up and profitable. Cedar Key is a pretty cool place. I love going there and walking around, and I always make sure to enjoy some clam chowder at Tony's.

Haven't heard of this new roller coaster but it seems as if you're going through a lot of trouble for you and your daughter to get a sneak preview. I hope after all that going from place to place both of you got to enjoy the ride. Back in the day I was a huge fan of roller coasters but not anymore. Seeing the one in your picture gives me a panic attack

I wasn't sure what to expect on this roller coaster, since the ride vehicle you're in spins/turns in addition to what it does on the tracks. I love roller coasters, but twisting and turning on the tracks AND spinning in your vehicle? Not sure I would like that so much

The integration of the coaster, the spinning ride vehicle, the music, the story, the video and audio sequences, and the various rooms/sections you ride through makes this new ride one technologically advanced roller coaster.
