Don't forget to plug it in

Someone mentioned to me recently that she cooks veggies in her crockpot. I've only done that when cooking a roast or some type of meat never by themselves. I decided to pre cook the cauliflower and zucchini in the crock pot and then use them in my recipe.
My plan is to cook the cauliflower until it's not so hard and then add the zucchini and summer squash until they start getting tender. That way they won't be too hard after baking today's meal.
I just went into the kitchen to see if I could now add the zucchini and discovered I never plugged it in. I figured I'd I used the crock pot then I wouldn't have to monitor them cooking in the stove and could do other things. Hopefully they cook enough by the time I'm ready.

I lost my steamer basket in the remodel. I ended up cooking them on the stove since they didn't get a head start the way I planned.

I only cook meet in the slow cooker. I never thought of cooking veggies alone in there. I would think they would get overcooked. I used to put a whole meal in there but if potatoes aren't completely covered in liquid, what is sticking out turns black. So I don't even put those in anymore.

@MarshaMusselman I have 2 different slow cookers. But they only have high and low settings.

I've never had potatoes turn black before and I never used to make sure they were covered. I never considered cooking veggies alone in there either until someone here said they were doing that. I don't think you'd want to keep them in all day unless it was in warm maybe.
It also might work better for the harder veggies rather than the rest.

hahahaha I've forgotten to plug in the crock pot a few times. The other day I put stuff in the air fryer and forgot to hit start. Hope your veggies cook in time. I never really thought about cooking them in the crock pot like you intend to do. Great idea and one I'm going to keep in mind.

Had I plugged it in initially I was going to use the high setting and switch it to low after a bit as I don't want them mushy either. But now I'll keep it on high.
Recently, I was using the air fryer in the oven and I must have forgotten to hit start too. I set the temp and after a bit wondered why it hasn't beeped to let me know when it was ready only to discover it wasn't on.

@MarshaMusselman I had the same thing happen with my air fryer (counter top one). I set it an when it didn't beep I realized I never hit start.
When I get a new oven I'm going to get one with an air fryer

It turned out fine but I found out my husband is getting tired of the casseroles I've been making him and wants to go back to chicken. Last week we were tied of chicken. Go figure. I have to figure out how to mix it up so we're not having the same things all the time.

@MarshaMusselman It can get difficult to continually ring the changes. Good luck with making it happen.

Never used a crock pot. Sometimes I realise that my phone is not charged despite being plugged for more than an hour. But then I see that I forgot to switch on the plug.

I have a larger one but since my daughter's are now both married I bought a smaller size this year and really like that one. It's small enough that I can keep it on my counter.

I ended up cooking it on the stove as I was running out of time. Is I didn't need to add the other veggies I probably wouldn't have discovered it either.

I don´t have a crock pot. If I had, I would haveforgotten to plug it.
I have several places where I can plug my laptop when the battery is about to end. And I do it. Only I forget to turn on the switch.

That's almost more important than cooking for a meal, lol. We have to have our computers.

Maybe you were the one that talked about this recently with me? How long do you cook most of your veggies and do you use the high setting it the warm?
@RubyHawk (99367)

@MarshaMusselman I use the high setting. Some veggies need to cook longer tha n others. Carrots take about twice as long as green beans or squash. The settings on your crockpot might be different than mine. If I were you I’d check about every hour or so. After you cook a certain vegetables you’ll see how long it takes.

From one extreme to the other. Overcooking to not cooking

At least you know they weren't overcooked
