Happy holiday weekend to everyone in the US! Do take a moment to remember that your freedom isn’t free, and there are a lot of bodies in national cemeteries that paid for it. That is what Memorial Day is all about. This has been a public service reminder from a veteran, who reminds you that our holiday is in November. Here’s today’s song on my list of ten favorites from 1962. #5: Dream Baby (How Long Must I Dream) - Roy Orbison There are some people who just could NOT be left off this countdown of 60-year-old songs. Roy Orbison is definitely one of them. What. A. Voice. And, gee, didn’t I use this in the “Baby” countdown? Of course! I don’t need an excuse to use a Roy Orbison song! Now, if you had to use a product based solely on the songs they used in commercials I’d be staying at a Doubletree Hotel every night. They used to use this song, flanked by photos of their free chocolate chip cookies, in their TV ads. Good selling point! And for your worthless trivia, this was written by Country Music Hall of Fame songwriter Cindy Walker, who wrote a ton of great songs. This is definitely one of them, although Roy could’ve sung the phone book and made it sound good.
