Just Wondering- Where are the Best Places to Hide Your Spare Cash?

I have a couple of places around my home where I stash some emergency money. Not that I think the banks will crash, although with this rising inflation and poor economy who knows for sure.
Anyway, I have a small steel security box safe with a key lock that I hide money. I put the box in my clothes closet behind a suitcase which keeps it from someone's view.
Another place I use to put money is in my office filing cabinet. I take a bank envelope filled with bills and select a folder right in the middle of the cabinet. The file I use is labeled tennis tips, so unless the thief is a tennis buff, he probably won't be interested in searching there. Pretty clever.
Some other suggestions:
***Inside cereal boxes or coffee cans
***A flashlight- remove the batteries first
***Old Birthday Cards- burglars are not going to dig through a box of these. Any money would have been removed by the recipient, right.
Are you someone who also hides spare cash around the house? If you do where is your stash hidden? Have you heard or can you think of any other sneaky places that would be good hiding spots?

If I did I wouldn't post about it online to give someone ideas. I keep 30 dollars or less on me at any given time. If I do get robbed, thieves aren't going to get anything of value.

@dgobucks226 Yes, in that time, if they are turning over drawers, or tossing books, some of those hiding places would be discovered. Unless, you have an alarm, in which case they flea (if they're smart), when it sounds. But, true t.v. has done a series on the world's dumbest criminals. Many of whom believe they have nothing to lose.

@dgobucks226 All to easy for someone ransacking your place to find. If a robber is going through your clothing, they'd notice the texture and thickness of the socks. Books, boring or not, usually get tossed about when someone's rooting through your stuff. Vases, likely to get stolen for their supposed value, because some thieves don't know the difference between worthless and not. They might go for the more obvious things, but if someone is seriously ransacking your home... they will grab as much as they can.

@kaylachan In my view, I really don't think a thief has that much time to go through your home to rob you.
Looking for cash in books, vases, cookie jars, and socks would cost valuable time. A thief would be concerned about being discovered by neighbors if he stayed too long. And he would be after items he can pawn. But maybe your thief is meticulous and is not worried about being caught.
In that case you might have a valid point.
According to sources- The average burglar takes less than a minute to break into your home and overall 8 to 12 minutes to get out again.

Well, if you decide to change up your hiding places here are a few more suggestions...
Some othe hiding places:
Empty cookie boxes- unless the crook gets hungry not a bad place.
Books- put cash in between the pages. Make sure the book is a boring one, lol.
Pillowcases- make sure you remove the bills before washing, lol.

We have a little bit of cash; but I don't tell anyone where we hide it. Besides, it always changes.

@dgobucks226 All good suggestions. We don't hide our money there; but in an empty freezer dinner box in the freezer is a good spot.

I wonder if it will be effective in a hollow book ( you can make one or buy) in a bookshelf along with tons of other books.

Great idea! Don't tell the burglar and make sure the book is boring.
Some other hiding places:
Empty cookie boxes- unless the crook gets hungry not a bad place.
Pillowcases- make sure you remove the bills before washing, lol.
Socks- Stuff money into your socks. The burglar might search the drawer, but unlikely he's going to try on your socks.

@yoalldudes Yes, true. You might have to write them down to remember them and then you will need a hiding place for that too

I found out about good places to hide after I had burglars twice in my house.
The burglars did not go to the kitchen or to the bathroom. But they even took all the shoes I had in my house.
So now I have some money in a coffee can in the pantry and other money and some jewels (I don“t have many left) in the bathroom, with the extra toilet paper and some feminine jars.

@dgobucks226 When the burglars came they searched everywhere in the rooms except for the kitchen and bathroom.

I've learned my lesson about hiding money, usually those kinds of places you mentioned are what most people do. They also hide money in freezers wrapped in tin foil.
Anyway, I thought I was so smart hiding money in 'plain' sight until an old boyfriend helped himself to it. I guess I wasn't as clever as I thought.

Hmm. Wonder if we should consider storing our credit cards in some of these hiding places. I have so many cards I have a hidden place. My wallet can only carry so many.
