So, a great thing has happened here in this state

The grocery tax was eliminated...
. Virginia was one I think of only 8 states who had a grocery tax, as if things didn't cost enough already.
. The only bad part of this is that it won't go into effect until Jan of 2023. I am happy to see this though, and the only reason really I voted for the current Governor. Can't wait until January! Has anything good happened in your state or territory lately?

It was just passed, and is part of the upcoming budget for next year. Besides stores need a chance to adjust their registers and so forth.

They probably have their budgets before that all finalized and voted-through.

You would know if they were planning to rescind it.

@RubyHawk There may still be some local taxes, but the state tax was the biggest one.

@snowy22315 I don’t think it will ever happen.

This doesn't apply to me directly, so I'm not sure how "good" it is; but President Biden called for a brief-vacation on 'paying taxes for gas.' (though some economists think it's a bad idea).

Yes, I thought I saw that had passed, but couldn't find anything about it in news stories. We need this! People need to be able to drive.

@snowy22315 Yeah, but ...
The Federal gas-tax is 'a drop in the bucket' (18 cents-per-gallon, with most State-taxes exponentially higher); and it'll be 'hard times' AFTER the vacation (as it usually IS when you get back from a vacation)

My country has reduced the taxes on petrol and diesel. I think this will reduce the prices of essential commodities and cooking gas.

Good, Biden wants a Federal Tax holiday but the stupid Congress is opposing it. Argggh!

Your current Governor has a lot of common sense and seems to have the best interests of his citizens in mind when making decisions. And his opposition to CRT education in schools and other radical indoctrination of youngsters is admirable! Nice to have a politician who actually listens to what the majority of constituents wants.

He's OK, I don't tend to vote for Republicans. He had alot of unwholesome ideas about kids going maskless in school and so forth when Covid was still quite problematic, but it seems to have worked out OK.

@dgobucks226 Too much of a risk in my opinion. Even if they weren't affected personally, they could have brought the virus home to someone more susceptible.

@snowy22315 Although Covid is a threat to anyone, kids seem to be least likely to have adverse effects from the virus. Their symptoms if they have them, are not even as bad as the flu, thus the reason not to subject young children to masks. Since their lungs are not yet fully developed to wear them for hours on end, it was a smart and common-sense decision by the Governor to leave it to the parents to decide on whether to mask or not.

A tax that goes to the state for purchasing groceries. This state doesn't need it. There is a huge budget surplus, largely from Covid monies that didn't need to be spent.

@snowy22315 I still cannot see the logic behind the tax, as if grocery is like gold and you need to pay extra tax for that.

@snowy22315 There is only a sale tax on grocery that it is the same for all Switzerland, it is 2.5% on most items, nothing on bread, milk, baby milk and some other things.
