I got to swim with the Indian families last night!

Early evening protocol at the apartment complex pool is kind of funny. It seems that there are "Mexican nights" and "Indian nights." I wish the two sub-cultures would mix more. Last night was Indian night. I got to swim with my friend Aditi and the other kids, along with some of their parents. Adiiti, at four or so, is getting bolder with age. She now does running jumps into the pool. I got some laps in and had a good time. I'll see if I can find a picture of Aditi and Astik in the back of my truck a year or so ago.

I'm surprised they allow a middle aged white man to swim in the pool.

@TheHorse Is vanny checking up on your activities again? I would hope you can kiss pretty girls, with their prior consent of course, if you feel like it. I certainly wouldn't tell on you. As long as you're both over the age of consent. Playing catch or otherwise have fun with kids is also allowed.

I have accepted that I am not allowed to kiss pretty girls or engage in other implicitly heterosexual behaviors. But when it comes to kids, i am allowed to play catch with them and otherwise have fun.

Hopefully, the groups will mix at some point. Some very hot evening when the AC quits. For some reason, your post reminded me of a scene from Fresh Off The Boat. The Indian family are at a sports game (Baseball) with the Cleveland? Indians. The dad holds up a sign that says "Now the real Indians are here" Totally embarassing the daughter

Sounds fun, though. Most Americans would enjoy it. But most Indians are more familiar with cricket than baseball.

@TheHorse is there a place to play cricket there? The bigger cities here have cricket

@TheHorse Brazilian and Mexican cultures are similar, I am not surprised they play together.

@LadyDuck But don't forget the black and white kids. I love the fact that littlies are oblivious (or almost oblivious) to race.

We shall see. Most of my "best friends" at the preschool are Mexican-American. But they play freely with black and white (and Brazilian-American) kids. Prejudice is TAUGHT.

It’s a shame they don’t all swim together.

What a cute picture. It's too bad that the two cultures don't seem to want to mix.

I will do what I can to change that. Especially with the kids. I'll play catch with anyone who wants to play catch.

@LindaOHio Exactly. No guitar at the pool. I did give the little boy in the photo guitar lessons. I refused to take money from his parents, but I demanded they pay me in Indian food. It was yummy!

@TheHorse Have you ever brought your guitar to the pool to play for the kids? You probably wouldn't want to risk damage to it.

Glad to know that Aditi now does running jumps in the pools. I think she is learning to swim from you now.

thats odd to me. maybe they wanted a family swim day. is there a "culturally open swim day?" right now it just comes off as seperatism. ive lived in apartment complexs before, never had this problem.

They are. Astik, the boy, has moved on, but he and his daddy visited the other day. I got to chat with them a bit. Aditi, the little girl, is still here.
