Making A List and Checking It Twice (or even three times)

Happy Friday Everyone! it's a nice sunny summer day here today, It's not brutally hot but it's warm. Yesterday the lawn company was here trimming all the bushes. I'm so glad they finally came because the bush by my front door was growing so fast it was starting to hang over the sidewalk. Was making it difficult for anyone coming up the sidewalk and I really thought I was going to have to ask my son in law to come over and trim it a little. Thankfully they showed up and now it's all nice and neat. Today they're back doing the lawns. Another noisy day but they do keep the place looking nice. I'm trying to make a grocery list so we can do the shopping over the weekend. Wanted to see what was on sale and although they had some things I was interested in, it wasn't much of a bargain especially since everything has gone up in price. Now even with a sale the price is still higher than what it was months ago We used to do a big Sams Club shopping twice a month, buy in bulk and then portion it all. Now we're trying to figure out if we can stretch it to either every three weeks or even just once a month. I remember when I was growing up Saturday night was always what my mom referred to as cheap night. We either had hot dogs or cleaned out the refrigerator with whatever was leftover. Nowadays even hot dogs aren't cheap. Anyway before I get off on a tangent about rising prices let me just wish you all a good day and hope you have something fun planned for the weekend.

No hot dogs nor anything that I can think of is really cheap. I cannot eat hot dogs, there is too much salt in them and it gives me a migraine. We're going grocery shopping tomorrow. I try to clean out the fridge with our meals on Thursdays and Fridays.

@Marilynda1225 Its just nice to know that you are able to eat a hot dog. You know what I made last night? I had a big round steak that I was going to cook for steak sandwiches, but there would have been alot left over, so I cut up the rest into little strips. I went out and bought some bean sprouts and water chestnuts and made such an amazing stir fry. I have never cooked with bean sprouts before. It was not as difficult as I thought it would be. I can definitely improve with practice, but my hubby did compliment me. Just before we sat down to eat I apologized for the meal in case it wasn't great.

We don't eat hot dogs very often either but it is crazy how expensive they've become. We'll be doing our grocery shopping over the weekend (both Sams Club and supermarket). It's almost becoming a job seeing which store has what on sale and worth the gas and time to go to more than one I don't have a set day for cleaning out the fridge as we pretty much will eat leftovers unless we take them and freeze them for another day

@Juliaacv I've never cooked with bean sprouts and have only had them in meals we've gotten from a local Chinese food place. I bet they were good in your stir fry. Certainly a good idea to try something new like that.

We get to hear the neighbor's mower going twice a week. I wish he'd find another way to combat boredom. Or, that he wouldn't do it while we're trying to sleep. Pretty still insists we go shopping at least twice a month. She does stick pretty close to our budget, though. Before the prices started climbing, she didn't even try to stick to the budget. The only new things here is that I was approved for a new medication. It's a shot that is supposed to help with the autoimmune disease that swells my eyes closed several times a month. I'm hoping it actually helps. Hopefully, I'll get to start it sometime this next week. We shall see.

@Marilynda1225 I hope so. You know I sleep during the daytime, right? I think he's rude to mow twice in one week, though.

@DaddyEvil Yes I know you sleep during the day which is why I laughed when you said he was rude for mowing during the day but guess he needs a hobby other than mowing 2x a week. That would be annoying. I hate when our crew comes and starts at 8am when I'm snoring lol

I really hope the new medication works for you. It must be horrible to have to deal with all your swelling so many times a month. Your neighbor is RUDE mowing while you're trying to sleep!!

Thanks, going to Costco tomorrow, I can usually find something there that is a good buy even in today's crazy price times.

@Marilynda1225 Actually, the strip I like to go to in the Richmond burb is pretty competively priced because there about 8 grocery stores in about 3 miles. These include Aldi and Lidl. I think I might hit Kroger though, since I don't have room to store any big items in the freezers.

@snowy22315 having all those grocery stores within such a short distance is awesome. We only have Giant and Weis here locally but we can go to Shoprite which is about 20 min away and so is Wegmans (opposite directions). Aldi is fairly close but Lidl isn't

that's why we do a big shopping at Sams. The prices are still better than any supermarket around here

@Marilynda1225 That`s right. You really need a good air conditioning especially on a very hot weather. We can`t control the heat wave

Seems like we're all cutting back on everything we can to stretch out money. Electricity is important to me since I need my air conditioning so I'd rather do without something else and be comfortable.

My something fun is working because I consider my weekends to be Thurs and Fridays when I'm off from my cashiering job. We did our shopping yesterday afternoon and even though we didn't buy much it still came to one hundred dollars but then later I remembered that I also got some new sheets that I'm hoping are the deep pocket type.

Prices are rising here too and they are predicting shortages of all sorts of stuff. Meat especially is expensive.

We are all checking our shopping lists these days. And less trips to shop to save gas.

It's Saturday now. I don't think I am going anywhere today. But I have not decided yet. There isn't anything I need. But I do sometimes get a little restless.

Rising prices on a fixed income make it challenging. When I used to do the shopping, I planned our meals solely on what was for sale that week. Now hubs shops and gets pretty much whatever he wants! Nothing at all planned for this weekend.

When I see an item on sale that I enjoy eating I pounce and buy as much of it as the store allows. If only we were energy dependent again, so gas prices returned to normal. Then transporting goods would not cost so much and prices would come down, sigh...
