I want Praze/Praise

I wrote that my brother-in-law lost his wife just over twelve months ago. They were a devoted couple and he cared for her so patiently and so well over the last few months. Nurses in Australia can be of any nationality and one of the most helpful was an Indian lady called Praze. Towards the end, Beth (not her real name) was in hospital and it was evident she was in a lot of pain. Ben (not his real name either!) went looking for help. He was quite distraught as the corridors seemed to be empty of any staff. Eventually, he came across a staff member and cried out to her ‘I want Praze, I want Praze’ whereupon she threw her arms around him and said ‘you’re doing a marvellous job’. Thankfully, they were able to help Beth and the incident is now more amusing than distressing. The photo is of part of my brother-in-law’s garden.

The beauty of that picture has me spellbound. I enjoy admiring gardens and the natural world. Simply said, I find it sad that that picture has a sad backstory. I sincerely hope he's already fine with losing her.

@JudyEv Good for him. After my mom passed away nine years ago, I recall how my dad likewise managed to get back on his feet. I worried that he wouldn't be able to handle things, but up to this point—when he found a new life partner—he was able to do so.

@rsa101 He is coping well at the moment and is going to England to visit his youngest daughter soon. He will enjoy that trip I'm sure.

Haha - I often put 'it's a joke' now to help the non-English speakers. I'm glad I didn't have to explain it!

I almost asked for one then thought I'd simply read it again. You are subtle with your jokes.

At least he got attention even if he could not get "Praze".

Yes, that's true. It was just unfortunate that there was no-one around at that precise moment.

I'm sure he misses his wife but he has two daughters and grandkids nearby so he is kept busy and isn't on his own too often.

Funny, how we can find humor sometimes in the darkest times.

It was a very stressful few days around that time. And he wouldn't let anyone else give him a break.

@judyev A little bit of much needed lightness in a dark situation.

True. The staff were all lovely but just when he really needed to find some help, they had all disappeared.

That is quite funny and as sad as the whole situation was it did bring about a laugh. Your brother in law has a very nice garden. Looks very peaceful

We still talk about it from time to time. We'll tell one another 'we want praise' when we've done something clever!
