"You are too old to get a job," said my wife

I know I am retired and I am now in my 60s. I still want to have a job in order that I can make ends meet. Our pension is deducted by the bank as we have borrowed the money for our children's school fee. It's a lot better now since my children are now grown up and have jobs.
I told my wife that I'd been trying to find a job but she said I wouldn't get it because I am already too old. No companies will hire me although I still look young.
Do you think if someone is already at the age of 60 above, he is already too old?
I feel I am still okay and look young. I still do the jogging every morning.
What's your take on it, dear Mylotters?

If politicians allowed we should be allowed. My personal., elderly people did their time, now its time for younger people to make sure good people like you get to live well, but world to greedy. Until we fix it I have no problem what people decide even though I find it sad we still at this point.

If being old is a problem, why do we choose president who is old? Why not young one? What's your take on it?

you can still have a chance. But I guess she is saying that you cannot get a job that needs to much energy like (Janitor, Construction, Delivery. etc) like that.
or maybe she is just thinking about your health?
Cuz as far as I know as long that you have experience they will still accept you in work.

Yes, I feel I am much younger. Many people are mistaken regarding my age.

@yanzalong Then you should find a job unless you’re disabled.

I hope your wife is wrong
I am 61 and need to go back to work
I don't think I was ready to retire
I hope I find any sort of job soon
I would even wash dishes and clean floors and stoves in a kitchen

Hi Jim. You are great. Despite your age, you show to people that you are still young physically.

Can you try selling something - set up a small store at home or sell cooked food.
Or if you have skills, like fixing things, maybe you can offer that.

Those are nice suggestions. Selling is not my thing nor is fixing things.

@yanzalong Maybe you can do simple videos about daily life, your neighborhood, etc. and upload them on social media. Some seniors share about gardening, cooking, places they go to, etc.
Just don't expect instant income. And think thoroughly about how much personal details you will share, discuss with your family first. Some regret it because they lost privacy and suffered bashing and harassment.

I met an Australian who ran a business in Indonesia. He said that people over 40 years of age find it hard to get a job.

@yanzalong Do you mean hard to get a job in Australia? There seems plenty of work available at the moment. But perhaps they all want younger people.

While many don't recruit old people post retirement, there are some jobs that encourage elderly. Our apartments owner association is always open to hire people in old age. There are few more not for profit organizations here that hire elderly to keep them engaged and financially independent.

So, there are quite a lot of choices for elderly people to get a job.

Nowadays, 60+ is not old at all. If you think you have the energy to work, look around for opportunities. In Hong Kong, there are companies who hire people over 60, and some non-profit making companies are offering job opportunities to retired people.

I think you might be able to find a part-time job somewhere, Perhaps some stores are willing to hire or restaurants they always need some extra help,

You can still find a part time job. There's no age discrimination in this trying time. You can apply part time teaching in a community college.

I think you need to enjoy yourself. For doing some activity, enjoy your life with your wife for staying home. Or go to another country take some rest. That's your prize for the past 60yrs of being an employee.
