At this point I guess I should point out that I was NOT requested, ordered, threatened, cajoled, or anything else to include this song by certain individuals who like the artist featured in today’s 1972 song. No, this song stands on its own. The fact that you probably know it even though it’s 50 years old proves that. Sing along. Heart of Gold - Neil Young (PS: thanks for the check, Phred. ) Neil ain’t young no more! Not with this, his only US #1 song, hitting the half-century mark this year. Backed by Linda Ronstadt (who also sang backup on “Old Man” and later had a good-sized hit with Young’s song “Love Is a Rose”), Young’s song of the search for love has become one of the great, iconic tunes in his career. So enjoy this classic yet again. Heart of Gold Written by Neil Young Recorded by Neil Young From Harvest, 1971 (Today’s 1982 song: “I Melt With You”) I’ve been to Hollywood, I’ve been to Redwood:

I know! You’d think that he would have had others. There was so much diversity in that part of the 70s (as I think this countdown is showing) that you’d see Freddy Fender on the chart with KC & the Sunshine Band and Alice Cooper!

That song is one of my favorite oldies but goodies. Wasn't it recorded by other artistes?

Wikipedia lists at least a dozen other people who have covered the song over the years.

I don’t see how people who have that gift of creating art can just “turn it off” if they get to a certain age. I know some do, but most give it up because of health.

Love that song and since Neil is Canadian but moved to Cali people think he is from here, but look at what he inspired, does not sound nearly as pretty with Tim's Rough voice but what makes it cool and to me every bit as cool as that song and think Neil would agree. Its neat how some people inspired others.

@FourWalls I can't say amen any more and another thing mylot may not get is sometimes people tell me to put a sock in it but that being said such a great point there and why I like these bands from here they like dude have heart and who cares if you as good as me, you keeping the world alive in your way, one area competition is not a thing if they true musicians the support they get is legendary unlike the support most people get.

Unquestionably Neil inspired a lot of people. I think one of the best things about Young is that he showed that people who aren’t “pretty” or who don’t have “great voices” can still make it because of the validity of what they’re saying in their songs.

I like a lot of people with voices that are an acquired taste. Neil Young is one of them. I don’t fault people for saying his voice grates on their nerves. I’m sure a lot of Rush fans have heard the band’s detractors say that about Geddy Lee.

The old generation songs did have good lyrics and this was my favorite, I was lucky to be born in the 80s, life was certainly good then.

I’m 20-ish years older, so I got two generations of good music.
