Autumn colours in our ornamental pear

I forgot to take a photo of the meal we prepared for our friends but I did remember to take a photo of the tree we pulled out this morning. Vince’s brother brought a battery-operated chainsaw with him and we were able to use that to take out the tree. Although it wasn’t a big tree, we left behind our saws and other tools when we moved. We didn’t think we would need them again. I was a bit sad to see it go as the leaves are really pretty at the moment, but the roots were spreading into the neighbour’s place so best to get rid of it before it got too big. Thankfully, I have a frangipani in a pot that I place in that spot. It should do well there.

The color of the leaves look like maple leaves. What's the name of this tree?

It's an ornamental pear and the leaves are very attractive. They do remind me of maple leaves.

Hard to remember to take photos when we have guests. I am sorry you had to cut it, the leaves are so pretty.

@JudyEv This is good. I had to cut many branches of our overgrown rosemary yesterday, I would love to have a battery-operated chain saw... my husband does not want to let me buy one.

They are very pretty at the moment. We have similar trees on the street verge so I'll be able to enjoy them there.

@LadyDuck I have the perfect solution, Anna. Buy your husband one for his birthday. It doesn't matter if he can't use it. I was given carpet bowls for a birthday once despite saying I didn't want them!

Was that tree already there or you planted it? It does look ornamental but I suppose being practical is the answer in these situations. Wat colour is your frangipani?

The developers put in the trees and many of them are having to be replaced. It's a great waste really. The frangipani was given to me and hasn't flowered yet. I think it is a white one.

Yeah, better to get rid of it while it was still a manageable size that needing to get rid of it after it was too large to handle. And the colors do remind me of a sugar maple tree in the fall.

It was easy to remove. A few years time and it would be much more difficult.

@JudyEv Yeah, given a bit more time and you might have needed to hire professionals to remove it safely.

It's a shame you had to lose your tree but I can see where it might become a nuisance for the neighbor. Is pretty decked out in autumn colors

@JudyEv I'm sure your frangipani will do equally well in the same spot

@Marilynda1225 It wasn't getting a lot of sun where it was. I'm sure it will be happier now it's been moved.

It is pretty but we can put something equally as nice there.

Yes, a bit sad that the tree had to go, but the bill for sorting out the spreading roots could have been a bit of nightmare

We are all so close to each other, it's best to stay friends and it really didn't matter much to us. The 'front' gardens are 'common' property and all have trees but most are having to be removed as they're not suitable for the places where they are situated. You'd think the developer would think these things through first.

@JudyEv I suppose there is always a first time to think through things!

Is it for decoration only? It will be great if such a pear tree can have a harvest, too

It's only for display purposes. I should plant a lemon tree. Lemons are always handy.

I'm not familiar with a frangipani. But the leaves are spectacular on your pear tree. I didn't realize the roots would spread like that.

The developers planted the trees in many of the blocks and now they will probably all have to come out.

It is a shame but it's not good if the roots are going to do damage.

I'm sorry the tree had to go but am glad you have something ready to go into its place. Mike has an electric chainsaw and a regular one (uses gas). He got the electric one so I could use it and it has come in handy many times.

The smaller chainsaws are very useful indeed. We sold two before we left the smallholding but they were both bigger ones.

I know they can be very damaging so best to get rid of it while it's small.
