Playing around with photos

A couple of my recent posts have talked about my husband’s entries in a Facebook photography site challenge. These are low-key competitions. There are no prizes and there is no big furore if people don’t agree with the decisions. Someone chooses a theme for the week and the photo has to be taken within that week. The challenge is designed to motivate the members to try something a bit different, to think outside the box a little. A recent theme was ‘distorted’ and you can see Vince’s attempt here. There is a new development going up next door to our community and there are three metal sunflowers at the entrance to the area. Vince applied some ‘layers’ to the photo and played around a bit with it and came up with this which, to me, is a bit reminiscent of Van Gogh. I really like it. What do you think? Edit: Thanks, Malu, for picking up the error.

I almost like it enough to have it printed up on canvas and put on the wall.

The photo indeed looks "unusual" and it's a good one. I hope Vince wins

The swirly flowers have a bit of a Van Gough effect. It's nice.

It could be, if the fence turns out to be a sunflower. The photo is beautiful.

That would be good, wouldn't it? To come up with a few Van Goghs.

Thanks but he didn't win. The winner was a face distorted by water - taken from the other side of a shower screen.

Yep, definitely Van Goghish. at first I thought he used something like excel to make those distortions.

I think he used Lightroom but there are several different applications which can be used for special effects.

Thanks but he didn't win. The winner showed a face on the other side of a showerscreen which was all foggy with lots of water droplets.

@JudyEv Well, I am sure that there would be many impressive entries there. And whether he won or not might not be that important. It's a wonderful photography and there is no doubt about that And he did enjoy it.

I never go into photography competition but previously I used a lot of Adobe Photoshop to change the photo to look like a new photo. I enjoyed it but since I had no more photo shop installed, I didn't play around with it any more.

I fully agree that this is a bit reminiscent of Van Gogh. They have found another auto portrait a few days ago, through an X-ray machine. It is "hidden" under the painting Head of a Peasant Woman.
