We'll see two more films today

There are two films on offer today at the International Film Festival. One is from New Zealand called Juniper and the other from Iran which looks to be like a family fleeing from somewhere. However, it is billed as a comedy/drama and from the shorts/trailer there certainly seems to be a lot of laughs in it. The first film isn’t till 2 pm so this morning we’re visiting Vin’s brother and his wife. The brother is just a couple of years older than Vince. We used to see quite a lot of them when we lived in Donnybrook but now they are several hours' drive away. And we will be house-sitting for three weeks in September and another ten days in October. We’ll still be able to go to the horse rides to take photos so everything is panning out nicely. The photo is mine which I’ve used before of one of the murals near the cinema.

I'm ashamed to admit I've not heard of the film, Juniper. I must look it up. I look forward to hearing your opinions on both films.

It was only released in Australia on 4 August, 2022 so it's not too surprising that you haven't heard of it. NZ puts out some great movies and this one didn't disappoint either.

@JudyEv I'm going to look it up as it doesn't appear to have had a high profile here.

@JudyEv loved Wilderpeople. Thought Juniper sounds a bit strange?

@valmnz The leading lady is a gin-soaked opinionated old lady - but she has a few good points. Someone told me juniper = gin which I should have picked up on earlier but didn't.

Will you go to see it? The scenery is spectacular. And have you watched Hunt for the Wilder People? That is such an enjoyable film and again with beautiful scenery.

Enjoy watching the films of the International Film Festival. I rarely watch films these days as I can't sit for long.

@JudyEv Yes, I enjoyed seeing films when I was young. My husband and I went both to the theater as well as watched them on the TV. I can't sit for that long now though interested in films.

I hope those films were entertaining. Hopefully you both will have a good time while house sitting. I remember that photo on one of your other discussions, the detail the artist put into the mural is impressive, I like the eyes with all those wrinkles around it, gives the person character.

@judyev I’m not one for mainstream blockbuster movies, but unusual, quirky movies with little commercial control are usually quite good and not mind-numbing. There’s a great cinema in Paris that for 3 months showed 3 Indian films a day - I was in my element. This was before the commercial strangulation of Bollywood and the outpouring of formulaic nonsense. It also coincided nicely with my pregnant wife’s need for comfortable seats, ice cream, an available clean toilet and air conditioning.
