Knitting for Charity

It's a long time since I did any knitting, but I've picked up my needles again this year. I recently came into contact with a group that knits baby blankets and beanies for charity. The blankets are knittd in pure wool and are made up of 24 squares sewn together. Fortunately I only do the knitting. Someone else sews them together. I'm not so sure I'd be as enthusiastic if I had to do my own sewing! We also knit baby beanies, some of my efforts are shown above. I'm really enjoying this simple knitting, as opposed to the larger garments I used to knit. A square or a beanie can be finished in a couple of sittings. They're good for using up left over wool too. The items are distributed throughout our central health region, so it's good knowing thy're going to families in need in the area. Knitting is relaxing and therapeutic and I am really enjoying this newfound hobby. Is knitting something you enjoy?

I have found crocheting very relaxing. I can do it while watching television, or cooling out in my garden.

Exactly. My friend crochets and we often have afternoons together, talking, knitting, crocheting.

Wonderful - the squares we knit are multi-coloured too. What is a connor blanket?

@valmnz you start your knitting at the one of the corners and increase your stitch as you start a new row

One reason why I had been away for quite some time here is that I found a new hobby. It's very close to knitting, it's crocheting. And yes it's very therapeutic. I am recently going through something and crocheting has somehow help me heal a bit. I've been making fancy dog collars for my fur babies and I like how they turned out. I'm attaching a photo of my recent work. I am currently making a cropped top for myself. I am addicted to crocheting.

@valmnz Bbichon frises. I talked a lot about them and posted photos in my discussion. Not sure you've seen them or if you did, you must have forgotten already.

I do love your hats. I never learned to knit but I do like to crochet. Making those blankets and hats for charity must feel very rewarding.

It's something I love doing. But I definitely prefer these smaller projects. My days of knitting garments are happily over.

@sallypup I'll stick to the little projects now. A beanie or a square both take about an hour and a half

I think you have that in common with Judy Evans. I am crap at any kind of handiwork really, but one time I did learn some basic crochet stitches. Maybe I could watch a youtube video and try to learn it again.

@valmnz Whenever I’m going to cook I always chop an onion first and figure the rest out later. Most things start with chopping an onion.

My son started knitting beanies about 5 years ago for a school project, and he liked enough that for Christmas one year he made beanies for every single person in our extended family. He was 10 or 11 at the time. I gave it a try, and it actually was pretty fun.

I do much the same but with crocheting. Mostly I manage to crochet things together. Sewing squares together would put me right off too. I also do tiny beanies for a neo-natal ward at one of our hospitals. I can make one in a couple of hours as they are so tiny. It's like crocheting for dolls.
