Donut Peaches, Not Peach Donuts

United States
July 31, 2022 11:43pm CST
My daughter's boyfriend brought home donut peaches. At first I thought they were special donuts shaped like peaches. I've never heard of these before. I guess they are grown in some type of container to form this shape. I've seen this with square watermelons before. I don't really like peaches that much so I didn't want one. He said it's not as good as the normal round kind. Have you ever heard of these before? Picture is mine of the peaches. For some reason I can't capture the image correctly. They look much better in real life.

@didinedhia That pack of four peaches cost 4.59. I'm not sure how more expensive it is than regular peaches.

I love ordinary peaches, think I'd stick to the usual kind though.

Those peaches are a cultivar that grow in that shape naturally. I LOVE them! We've been getting them from the grocery store for a couple of years now and I buy them every time they come ripe here. YUMMMM! If they don't have an over-the-top ripe peach smell, they aren't fully ripe yet. They taste best when fully ripe.

Yes, it's smaller and supposed to be sweeter. I'm partial to white nectarines myself. At my local shop, Marukai Wholesale Mart, they had last year & this, so last year I researched and tried it. Looks cute.

We do get these occasionally. They are more expensive than the "regular" ones. But like the regular ones, they have to be ripe . . . and oh they are so good!

They are so expensive that my daughter started to buy regular ones for my grandson. They are nice to try but too expensive to continue.

NO they are not grown in special containers. Those peaches exist since I was a kid, they were wild peaches that grew to support the vines in the vineyards, in fact we call them "pesche della vigna" (vineyards peaches).

@misunderstood_zombie This peach is native from China and it was introduced from China in the United states in 1869. It grows in Italy since the late 1800.

I was surprised to hear this, many others made the same comment. They are very interesting, maybe they are a European peach that has finally made it to Texas.

@LadyDuck I didn't know that. It's very interesting that it came from China. I guess I thought it originated in the Americas.

I've never heard and seen them, it's only now in your pic. I hope they're not scientifically altered. That may be the reason why they don't taste as good as the original peaches.
