Is it toxic, egg yolk coated with gray color?

This morning I fried and boiled eggs. When I opened the egg, I noticed its egg yolk coated with gray color. I'm wondering if it's safe to eat or not. I didn't eat the boiled egg I threw it. It's so unusual. Usually it's plain yellow. I'm thinking if all these I bought, 1 tray, all like this, egg yolk turned gray. Have you also noticed this? Thanks for reading, sharing is caring. If the egg yolk turns gray or green it means that you boiled the eggs for too long time... that is almost always the case in the United States. THROW the eggs and remember never to boil more than 12 minutes.

@cacay1 Too many things that the more you boil the safer, that is totally wrong, Once the yolk is firm it is safe and it takes no more than 11 to 12 minutes.

As some who has had hard boiled eggs many times that light gray coat is normal. It’s usually the layer between the white of egg and the yellow. If it’s thick gray and of course doesn’t smell right I wouldn’t eat.

@cacay1 its the age of the egg. It’s older but not bad. A good way to test is the water tested before having any time of egg.

@ShyBear88, I didn't eat the egg for its unusual color. My sister didn't notice for she likes to fry the egg. She's also wondering why.

@marguicha, thanks for the info, I better fry the remaining eggs so I won't see the gray color of the egg yolk.

As others have said, it's just a sign of overcooked eggs. We've eaten a lot of those - and hey, we're all still here . My mom makes this Japanese one pot dish . . . nearly everything in there is overcooked. A cooked boiled egg is placed in there and it cooks even longer . . . so by the time you eat it, the entire yolk is nearly gray .

@cacay1 Gray is fine - green would be weird . And I don't think that is the yolk trying to turn into a green vegetable .

That gray coat is normal in a lot of boiled eggs. It's caused by a bit of moisture still being in the outer part of the yolk. It's perfectly safe to eat.

@misunderstood_zombie really? So it's not toxic. I may ask the egg seller why its color is gray.

I don't know, I haven't seen it before. Perhaps you can smell it. If the eggs have a bad smell, then they may go bad and don't eat them. If there is no smell, I think it is safe to eat. After all, I don't want to waste the food

The eggs won't hurt you if they turn gray inside, they are not toxic. I have looked this up before to prove it to my son when he boiled his too long. It simply means they are overcooked. It's fine.
