It has always been a dream of mine to overcome my fear and do bungee jumping at least once in my life BUT, I have decided to cross it off my list without even trying it because of a terrible incident that my boyfriend forwarded to me today.
A woman died in Kazakistan yesterday attempting the feat. The cables snapped. And here I was thinking that due to the danger it pertains there must be quality measures done to ensure things like this does not happen. This put me off bungee jumping completely.

Accidents do happen in such kind of activities. Never thought of trying bungee jumping. I've tried parasailing in Pattaya, Thailand some years ago. It was fun.

@Beestring Oh then crossing that out of the list too. I am a very clumsy individual.

@flapiz yes, you do need to have some sense of balance.

How awful for that poor woman in Kazakistan! I have such a huge fear of heights that I've never even considered bungee jumping, hot air ballooning, or sky-diving. I figure there's enough scary things in life that I don't have to go looking for it, LOL! Sorry that your bungee-jumping dreams have been dashed, though.

I always wanted to do a parachute jump but I'm extremely afraid of heights so that won't ever happen. Everything is dangerous in one way or another. You just have to choose what you want your life to be like and go for it at times.

@flapiz Then you really don't want to watch the YT videos showing accidents that happened with beginners taking their first parachute jumps, either. (One video shows the instructor forgetting to attach himself to the harness and having to hang onto the newbie all the way to the ground.)

@DaddyEvil Oh no definitely not watching those. Gosh those videos just adds more to the anxiety. The thought of jumping off a plane is already scary as it is.

Safety standards are different from country to country, and even within each country. I would stick to bungee jumping in countries with well established safety standards and laws, including most European countries, Canada, Unites States, and Australia. And then within those countries look up the safety records of each of the bungee jump companies.
Seeing the cable snap for one person would not stop me from doing, just like watching one plane crash would not stop me from flying. Statistically, the probably of dying from a snapped bungee cable is very low.

@moffittjc No not really. It should be the safest mode of travel. But maybe not take the same airlines

@flapiz So if you see news of a plane crash, will you stop flying?

Instances like these do happen like in a roller coaster. I used to want to go swimming with a "butanding" whaleshark I believe. Ive given up on that.

I want to do that too. That one is doable. Why have you given up on that?

@yoalldudes Oh do you know what brought about this feeling? And how about getting wet in the showers?

@flapiz I have developed anxiety and dislike for getting wet.

It's true that anything may happen; no matter how carefully they designed the jumping, there's always a chance that something will just fail without your handlers noticing. My coworker tried it in Africa when she was over 60 years old. She mentioned that was the last time she would do it because she had bodily aches for weeks, even though it was an exhilarating experience for her.

@flapiz Oh yes she is just too brave that right after retirement from us, she volunteered to work in Africa at an NGO there. Then she took advantage of exploring the place and there she got the chance to do bungee jumping. Besides that, she loves to go on scuba diving and up to this day she does swim and she is in her 70s already.

In my younger days this is something I did consider, but certainly not now. I guess maybe I will focus on a tandem sky dive.

@flapiz Not really, but I would like to try it. Of course I had a friend who broke her leg skydiving..

@snowy22315 Oh no. How did that happen? Did she land wrongly?

That has deterred you from attempting I see. Better that way than live in fear.

I’m sorry to hear about the accident. I can’t take heights anymore, so that nixes bungee jumping for me, even without the built-in dangers. I’m also old now, so my body couldn’t handle the jolts to it that bungee jumping causes.

I'm not daring to do that thing besides I have a phobia of heights.

I’m with you. I also wanted to do it for a long time and then I got put off by all the accidents happening around the world. The risk outweighs the benefits.
