What a Lovely Surprise

Oh, that leafy, earthy smell. I felt so exhilarated and relaxed. It actually rained a bit last night. I had missed that leafy, earthy smell and the feeling of refreshment. It actually lifted my mood. I hadn't been awake when we got a sprinkling the other morning. I hope we continue to get these from time to time. A nice thunderstorm would be welcome too.

I totally agree... there's nothing quite like the earthy smell during or right after a rain. When it rained last weekend, I could smell the earth wake up from the hot nap it had been taking... I'm really looking forward to the rain we're supposed to get Monday to Wednesday this week

I learned that the word to describe the smell of a first rain is 'petrichor'. Hot nap to be sure. We may get some more. I'm not sure. I did enjoy what we did get.

@celticeagle I knew there was a word for it but couldn't remember what the word was. Thank you for that. It would be nice if we all got some much needed rain now. Springfield, Mo, about 45 miles from our house got enough rain yesterday to flood the downtown area. We saw video of some people paddling canoes down the streets there this morning. (I don't want that much rain but am hoping there's enough that Pretty will "need" to go mow the yard this next week. )

I hope you do. We could use a good thunderstorm, too but that's not going to happen.

Probably won't happen here either. A girl can dream though.

@celticeagle Agreed. I am tired of the heat, because the humidity is endless.

If you’re interested, that smell actually has a name: petrichor. I totally agree with you: it’s one of the best smells ever!

@celticeagle That's not literal. It's an idiomatic expression of sympathy.

I'm not into booming thunder storms. Rain does sound nice.

Rainy weather is better than dealing with very hot weather and sticky humidity.

Yes, I love the way the trees, bushes, and grass smell after a good rain. I also love the smell of fresh-cut grass! It lifts my mood, too! And a thunderstorm during a warm evening is also welcome in my book.

Oh I miss rain now. We won’t get any before October and if October is dry another rainy season comes next February. Enjoy it! I love summer storms.
