An email not meant for me

So I get this email early in the morning with the subject line Whore, sender displayed as Emma. I immediately think that this is going to be some nasty email. But I look at the preview of the email and realize it is not. However, this is clearly not meant for me, even though I am an author. I am addressed to as Lena White, which of course is not my name. Then I am asked if I want them to do this: include my book "Whore" (never published a book by that name) in their newsletter sent to 85,000 subscribers; tweet about this book to 19,000 readers 105 times; and list it on their website for 2 years straight. A link to kindle book marketing website was included. "Kindle book marketing" was also the email it came from. I did not click on the link of course. I wonder how they got my email and why they thought I am Lena White... I searched for this name on Google and there is actually an author by that name. According to one search result apparently she has 136 books on Goodreads. And she writes books "about wives who need something more and find it..."

Not that I would go for it from a stranger but wish someone actually wanted to help promote my books. Don't think I've ever gotten an email from someone wanting to promote my books.

What are the chances that both of our names are Lena? If I remember correctly I once was getting emails with house listings for a person with the same first name as me but different last name. It may have been for my official name Yelena.

Oopsie! At least we know I got your email right, though. I just sent the email to the wrong author. I think I'd just put the email into your "Junk" folder and not worry about it. When the author doesn't reply, they'll check the email and realize their mistake.

They sure will. And the sad thing is that many fall for it.

@lovebuglena Too many do. Especially the elderly. They tend to be an easy target for whatever reason.

That's intriguing. I wonder how they ended up with your email.

I am curious to know the same thing. I am sure her email is not even close to mine to mix that up. But we are both authors.
