Q of the D: Do You Have a Scar & How Did You Get It?

I do and a funny story (sort of) as to how I got it. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "you've got a hole in your head" before. Well, that's what happened to me, so let me explain in detail what caused it. When I was around seven our family was visiting our grandparents when my older brother and I were fooling around teasing one another. Anyway, I can't recall what I did to set my brother off, but he got really mad at me and started to chase me around the living room. There was a table we were circling around and when he caught me, he shoved me headfirst into the corner of that table. The force caused a puncture hole in my far head the size of a dime. It was scary looking my parents told me later, but no blood at all from the wound. They rushed me to the hospital where the doctor there treated the injury by pressing the skin folds back together to close the hole, no stitches! Just a tiny circle like scar remained which I can't even notice now as an adult. Although, that "hole in the head" may explain the warped sense of humor I have today. It was kind of funny and weird looking thinking back on it, but not very funny to my parents and grandparents at the time. So, do you have any scar stories to share? Photo- just wondering

I have a scar from when I was 7 too! In the school playground, I had one leg over a bar and was spinning forward. This boy was eating an apple on my area of the safety mat. He opened his mouth, and my head collided with his teeth . He cried and was sent to the nurse's office. I thought what a crybaby he was . . . so I went back to spinning . . . oddly I saw red drops dripping onto the mat below. Then I discovered it was coming from my head . . . so I went to the nurse's office . Ultimately I got 7 stitches on my head . . . 7 at 7 - that's how I always remember .

You were a tough cookie Much! Sister and I were fooling around one time, and I ended up hitting my tooth on the back of her head. That really hurt! She didn't get hurt though.

@snowy22315 I think the boy who bit me actually lost a tooth. I got stiches on the side of my head - a little further back from the temples. You and your sister are lucky to have not gotten hurt worse!

Ouch! That hurts just hearing about it That's giving new meaning to the phrase, "you've got a hard head." Scar Facts: The best methods to help with scar healing are to use your fingers and massage the area in a circular motion. Also, avoid sun exposure during your healing time. As you get older, skin becomes thinner, and wounds take longer to heal. However, old age is also associated with less scarring. Some scars can take up to a year before taking its final form.

Well, kinda. Mom actually told me about it cuz it happened a few seconds before I was born. Mom was to blame though, she'd never had a baby before so when she started her labor pains she wasn't sure it really was labor pains. She said those pains went away so she simply went back home when nothing happened. Then after a week or so her sister convinced mom to go see a doctor and yep she was in labor but her body wasn't working properly so she had to have a caesarian, it was August 1949. Well, I was already in the birth canal so when the doctor started cutting I squirmed right into the blade cutting my face slightly above the left corner of my mouth. It's not easy to see anymore cuz of all the wrinkles.

Yeah, I think the second layer of skin was what did the most healing, until the wrinkles set in it was noticeable but not that ugly now it just looks like part of the wrinkles .... I wish I could get rid of the wrinkles but as a friend told me it's a sign that I lived long.

Yikes, what a close shave that was for you! Scar Facts: The different types of scars vary in appearance. At first, a normal scar may be red and look sore, but it will usually fade as the injury begins to heal. If the skin at the edges of the wound has come together neatly, the scar will usually heal as a thin, pale line. As you get older, skin becomes thinner, and wounds take longer to heal. However, old age is also associated with less scarring. Some scars can take up to a year before taking its final form.

Several, the most prominent one being from the heart surgery I had as a child. I have one hidden by hair that was obtained by bouncing on my parent's bed when I was little and throwing my head back, and hitting it on a wooden cabinet. (I was having a wonderful time until that happened.)Talk about blood! Anyway, no hair grows in that spot, but I have always had more than enough to cover it.

Glad you have a full head of hair to cover that little bald spot Yes, hair will not grow on scar tissue Has the scar on your chest from surgery faded a lot over time? They say it will. Funny how some injuries happen when we're having a great time like riding a bike, climbing something or in your case bouncing on the bed Scar facts: The different types of scars vary in appearance. @dgobucks226 it has faded over the years although still very noticeable. I find Vitamin E oil helps a lot and is much cheaper than other acar fading products.

Yes, I have two scars on my right palm which reminds me of how foolish I was as a child. I grabbed the electric wires with my bare hands as I thought it would be easy to pull the wires to stop the fan rather than switch it off. These scars always remind me of my foolishness.

I have many. The biggest is on my back near my lung, the right. I was standing on a pigeon coop with a glass trap, standing on the glass trying to reach an apple on a tree high up..I was around 10. The glass broke and went straight into my back when I fell, narrowly missing my lung and spine. A massive scar it is with many stitches I had. Scare the living bejeezus out of my Mother RIP

@dgobucks226 — no, I hurt my knee simply leaning over the bed to change the sheets. My facts: I was born clumsy, and as I’ve gotten older I seem to have had a relapse.

I had a scar on my right cheek which was caused by my doctor who mistook it for cancer though it was a gum trouble which the dentist rectified but before that another doctor had already cut my cheek. The scar has faded gradually by massaging face cream.

I have a lot of scars on my knees. One was from when I was quite young. My father built a rabbit cage on legs; and I decided to climb it. One of the wires from the rabbit cage caught me as I slid off of it. Both knees have scars from surgeries; and I also have a big scar on my hip from a surgery as well. I have a new knee and a new hip..

Wow, so glad everything turned out ok! I do have a scar, not too visible, next to my left knee on the inside about an inch long and an eighth of an inch wide. I got it when I was in 6th grade. Elementary school, moved to a newer one, changed its name from Pearl City Kai School to Lehua Elementary, because school nearby Lehua street. Construction, just finishing. My friend and I were walking on the sidewalk leading out of the school. We were teasing each other & she pushed me, a bit harder than she wanted, I slipped, and my leg was pierced by a nail sticking upwards. She apologies and felt so bad. My Mom, sent me to my doctor to make sure of things. Well, it left a scar. My friend felt so bad, she treated me to a movie & snacks, later.

Yes, it was scary at the time, but fortunately not as serious as it looked to my parents. Wow was the girl your best friend at the time? Many accidents occur from fooling around as kids. Sounds like she was a good friend to you. Friends care about one another and her feeling so bad that she treated you confirms it. As they say good friends are hard to find!

Ouch, that had to have hurt and of course could have turned into a much worse situation than it did. But yeah. Ouch! I have a scar on my finger from when I was a kid. Wanted a sliced apple, mom told me to wait as she had to go to the neighbors, I decided to do it myself, and cut through the apple and along my finger. Presto, a scar was born. I also have a scar on my knee when I went down the stairs once with a glass of milk in stocking feet, slipped, the glass went airborn and landed on my knee requiring many stitches inside and out. Another scar was born. lol

I have 2 scars. The first one, was when I was 9 years old.. I was going up/off of bike jumps with my bike. I got to the top of the ramp, and accidentally fell off the jump, so I fell from probably 8 to 10 feet, broke some teeth and split open my chin, most likely also got a concussion as well. Anyways, that landed me a scar, I needed 7 stitches I also have another one, I think I was 17 years old. I got in to a fight with my dad, kinda, and accidentally hit my head on the corner of a wall, cut my forehead open a bit, that time I needed I think 2 or 3 stitches. Scars remind us of our past, and are surely interesting!

I have almost the exact same story! I was about 2 years old, and I somehow fell against the sharp corner of my grandmother's coffee table (probably running around). I had to go to the emergency room and have stitches, but I pulled the stitches out soon after, and now I have a cross-shaped scar on my forehead.
