I Screwed Up!

I woke up a little while ago, took the break I needed, then went looking for food... I had suggested, before I went to sleep, that spaghetti sounded good for lunch. Pretty agreed and asked if I needed her to lay out a package of meat from the freezer.... Yeah, thanks... I minced a small yellow onion and put it into the fry pan and added the 1 lbs (.45 kg) of thawed meat on top of the onion and turned the heat to "medium" and put the lid on the pan. I got the cooking pot out and filled it half-way with cold water, added a tablespoon of olive oil and 1/4 teaspoon of table salt and turned the burner on "high" while I went searching for the rest of the things I'd need to make some delicious spaghetti... And that's when it happened. We were out of spaghetti noodles. All I could find were elbow noodles. So, lunch is cooked and it tastes fine. It just isn't spaghetti. Have you ever had your lunch plans changed because you forgot to buy more of the main ingredient? Image is actually spaghetti I made last week. Photo is mine.

Thanks, but hotdogs and sausage don't belong in spaghetti in my kitchen. There is ground beef in that picture, though.

@DevMrSamEleazar Because that isn't just ground beef. 1/4 of the meat you see there is ground sausage. It still tastes like spaghetti, even if it's the wrong type of pasta for the dish.

It seems to be delicious but I dont eat beef, pork, or sausages here so I won't be able to know how it tastes. But yes when you say you are cooking this and the main ingredient is missing that makes the dish awkward. Pretty might be wondering what have you cooked.

@DaddyEvil but there was no pasta (less) in it so she should or you should not call it pasta actually. Anyways hope you enjoyed eating it.

@sjvg1976 It doesn't matter what we call it as long as it tastes good and fills us up. Oh, there is enough made for three meals for each of us. I always try to make extra so I don't need to cook again for a few days. Thank you.

No, Pretty laughed at me because she says all pasta tastes the same so any pasta can be used and it will taste good. (She is so mean to me! ) She ate a big bowl of it and said it was still delicious.

If I notice that I am out of a shape of pasta I use another, elbow pasta is even better than spaghetti if you make a meat sauce.

@DaddyEvil I do not buy elbow pasta because I do not like, with meat I usually make fettuccine, or the large maccheroni.

@LadyDuck I usually use spaghetti, fettuccine or rotini pastas most of the time. Pretty likes the elbow pasta. I don't know why. She is always happy with the foods I make. (But she's a girl, so who knows why she likes some things and not others. )

Mac and ground beef. Why do they call it ground beef? The mental picture when someone says "ground beef" is a thick paste like its been through a mortar and pestle.

Because it is put through a grinder. Not to a paste-like consistency, though. (Most people where I live call it hamburger but people in countries like India and China have no idea what I was talking about if I called it that.)

@Fa_Maverick No, not really sharp. They just have a small gap between the teeth so the minced meat is forced through the gap.

That works! We have all kinds of pasta in the pantry . . . sometimes I do have to substitute the spaghetti for something else because I thought we had some - but nope . Recently for dinner, I was going to make salsa, but we didn't have cilantro. You can have salsa without it, but that is a key ingredient for our taste buds. I scrapped that whole meal idea because of it .

@DaddyEvil Believe me, I know it, I know. We almost always have extra spaghetti. I stock up to the point where I just assume we have it for sure . . . well, sometimes I'm wrong . I've done that with frozen meats too . . . I'd think for sure we had ground beef or whatever - and there's none - so I have to think of something else for dinner .

@much2say We buy ground beef and ground pork once a month and I split it down 3/4 lbs of ground beef with 1/4 lbs ground pork in a Ziploc bag and freeze them. We always have that in the freezer. There's a reason I freeze leftovers in individual baggies. When I can't see it makes it easier for Pretty to feed me. Just pull one of the baggies out, thaw it and give it to me. I'll fumble my way through the meal.

Yes, but I was already working on spaghetti, so finished everything as if I had spaghetti noodles. We still don't eat outside foods. We're both high risk and can't take a chance like that. Covid is still in our community.

Hahahah. It happens often to me with salads! Yes salads!!! I always have eggs, tomatoes and meat (chicken, bacon, beef) and sauce but it happens so many times that I start making it and then I realize I don’t have lettuce nor cabbage nor any main green ingredient I’m supposed to put in. So I always improvise. My husband calls them “tomato salads” lol cuz I always have those.
