Oh, who wasn’t expecting this one??? Hmm? If I say “songs with listen in the title,” this is probably one of the first songs that come to mind. Me too! And it’s a great tune, which is why it’s included on the top ten. Here’s today’s listen song.
#7: Listen to the Music - The Doobie Brothers
"The lyrics that came out of that were based on this utopian idea that if the leaders of the world got together on some grassy hill somewhere and either smoked enough dope or just sat down and just listened to the music and forgot about all this other bull(stuff), the world would be a much better place.
(Tom Johnston)
You know, he has a point. That’s what the 70s were like. As the Eagles sang in “The Sad Café,” “We thought we could change this world with words like ‘love’ and ‘freedom.’”
(And who’s shocked about a guy in a band named Doobie advocating smoking dope????
)
Those ideas have faded, but hey, we can STILL listen to the music and make our own peace.
This was the Doobies’ breakthrough hit, and 50 years later it is still “a way to make them smile” for fans.

Aha! The Doobies Are Just Alright. Oh no there not, their great
One of my most enjoyable bands I saw in concert. Just straightaway 70's rock n' roll featuring all their classic hits.

Their drummer passed away this week.
I never saw them live, but they are a BIG part of the soundtrack of my teenage years!

@FourWalls I read that about their drummer. They have had a few but I believe he was the original one.

What’s not to love? There’s a lot of great music from them, and a lot of diversity too! This is the same band that did “Black Water,” after all!
