Gift Giving

What method do you use when you are giving a gift? Do you ask the person what they would like, or do you choose something you think they would like?
Gifts which are not liked or appreciated are often returned and exchanged, or given as a gift to someone else, or put away on the top shelf of a closet.
Have you ever done that? Sometimes it is safer to give cash, a gift card or voucher.
Those certainly will not be returned.
What is the worst or craziest gift you have received?
I celebrated my birthday on Tuesday, September 13 , and l received cash and other small gifts.
I was happy with what l received because to me, whether large or small - it is the thought that counts.

I could give cash to my niece but never to a friend, as it would considered pretty rude, it's not "personal" and difficult to decide how much to give.
I usually ask if they have a public wishlist on Amazon, that is the best, as I see what they have in their list they want to buy and I choose something from that list.

I have not received any gifts, let alone crazy ones, except when I was a child for Christmas.

@Kandae11 Yes it was. We did not have a lot but even one item was wonderful Kandase.

@RebeccasFarm. Yes indeed, some gifts l gave and received back in the day would seem like a joke in these days.

YOu are right it is the thought that counts but some gifts are definitely better than others!

I usually ask what the person wants and always hope they don't tell me something they feel is a need, instead. But, if I can afford it, I will give them the needed item or the cash to buy it. It's their gift, they can have whatever they want.

@Kandae11 Yes, that's true and when I know the person really well, like Pretty, I will buy something even though she always tells me she doesn't want anything. When I see her using it/wearing it later, it feels really good.

When it is done like that you are sure they are not getting something they will hide away in a closet --the choice is theirs. There are times though when we hit the right note when choosing a gift for someone. It could turn out to be something they absolutely love.

I prefer to ask and I prefer if I am asked too.

@Kandae11 When I have no access to ask then I prefer to give a gift voucher or cash

A gift really is subjective. My cousin used to give me a Christmas gift from the Dollar Tree, but I loved it because that was all she could afford. A friend gave my husband a year planner from the Dollar Tree with two months missing. She's very wealthy and I'd rather receive nothing from her than that. In her case, the gift was an insult.

@Kandae11 I'd much rather she didn't give us anything.

Wishing you a very happy belated birthday. As for me I accept whatever someone gives me as a gift. This birthday my elder brought a birthday cake for me. My younger son wished me from Denmark. I am happy about that. My husband mostly gifted me some jewelry and took me out for dinner.

Belated Happy Birthday dear firstly. I generally like to give cash if I have no idea about the other person's likes. I think it's safe as that person can buy as per their likes and need. I haven't been gifted much and it's fine. Have a good day. Take care

My sister has lots of godchildren during Christmas and she find it cheaper to give gifts than cash. Belated Happy Birthday to you. How old are you now?

Usually I give gift voucher for a spa, shops, etc.
For kids, I give money so they can buy what they want.
