Not Sure if I am Ready

Seems like this is going to be a busy weekend. My wife and I are talking about attempting to do a "practice camp" in our driveway, and we may have company over since it was my mom's birthday on the 28th and we may want to celebrate it. I have been out of of town on business. Plus, at some point we need to shut down the pool, and I am hoping the wife does not want to do it this weekend. Although she will be out of town next weekend, so who knows? I will await my instructions. lol At the same time we have stock order on Monday, and October starts the "process toward inventory," so there is a lot to get done there as well. I am not sure if I am ready. But of course, I am not sure that I have a choice either. I guess it is what it is. The silver lining is that October will be a heavy overtime month, and I guess with the camper needing some "monetary attention," that might be a good thing.

That’s a good idea to do your first campout in your own yard. I’ll bet your mom would enjoy the experience.

@porwest Doesn’t matter if it doesn’t look like a camp ground. Your experience will be on the inside of the camper. And it will be good practice backing up.

She would. The trick will be backing it into the driveway, but also good practice backing. Our house is situated in an area that very much resembles a campground. lol

I worked some serious overtime this week at Lowes due Hurricane Ian. Gonna love that big fat paycheck when it comes in. I’ll put all that extra money toward our Disney trip at Christmas.

@porwest I hope Lowe’s stock improves after this hurricane. It’s taken a beating lately. Even my Home Depot stock is down significantly, but it’s still at a much higher price than when I bought it over the 5 years I worked there.

I was commenting the other day about "one man's disaster being another man's treasure." I know it sounds awful, but I always try to look at some places to invest money when things like this happen. In the case of hurricanes home improvement stores and places like Walmart will do very well as people repair, rebuild and replenish.

@moffittjc Home improvement companies are ones I have never owned. I'd own Menards if it were public. I have a feeling, though, that home improvement MAY do well despite inflation and despite a recession—I mean, if people are going to do anything they may stay home and if they are home they may as well enjoy the abode. Theoretically. I guess it is sort of like how well auto parts stores do during recessions because people tend to have older cars and keep them longer rather than buy new ones.

A trail run in the driveway sounds like a good idea. At least you're close to home Hope your mom enjoys her birthday celebration

I remember we actually did this. It was a bit of a challenge getting the camper into what is a challenging driveway, but we did it and had fun. Now we're regular campers. lol

Our neighbours at the retirement village recently bought a motor-home and were planning a trial trip away in it. I think they were going a bit further than their driveway though.

At the time it was too close to the end of "season" and we weren't all that adventurous. Luckily that changed.

Heavy overtime sucks but then again it puts more money in your pocket. What do you mean by “shut down the pool”?

@porwest wow! That seems like a lot of work. I didn’t know one had to drain the pool.

@lovebuglena You generally don't have to drain it entirely. And shouldn't. We just take a few inches off and then treat it before covering it up. Allows for expansion if some of it freezes at some point.

Justy that we have to remove the ladder, drain a little of the water off, put in the the "balloons" to stabilize the cover, take the skimmer off and detach the piping, drain and cover the pump, and cover the pool itself.
