Photos gone from my iPhone

I have an iPhone 6S. It has 16 GB of storage. It is pretty much maxed out. At times I keep getting a message telling me that my iPhone is full and to free up storage. But whenever I look at the storage it never says I have 16 GB used up. It's always slightly less. Whenever I remove something to free up space (attachments, photos, apps) it doesn't decrease by much and it doesn't last for long. I went to look at my photos yesterday and noticed that there are only 16 photos. These are the last ones I took. Then there is a message telling me "Uploading paused for 1,288 photos." This has never happened to me before. I guess the system did it to free up space on the phone, though it shows that my iPhone storage is pretty much used up anyway. I guess that is a sign that I need a new iPhone. I have to figure out which one to get. I am not sure I want to part with the round button on the bottom. And I have to get my mom to come with me to AT&T because I am on my mom's family plan so I can't upgrade without her.

There is a finite amount of storage to store stuff. I now have an iPhone 13 and I think it the middle level of storage but it all means nothing to me. I think most of my stuff gets uploaded to the Cloud anyway.

@NJChicaa What's mid-level iPhone 13?

@lovebuglena no but there is a limit to storage. I don't know if it changes based on the phone you paid for. I know that my ex had to buy extra storage at one point. I never have had to. I'm now at the mid-level iPhone 13. He says I'll never fill it up.

Good luck deciding on which phone to get. I don't know how to get photos off my phone; so I haven't taken any yet. Besides that, it's a basic flip phone; and I don't know how many pixels the photos are. Probably not too good as the phone was $29.99! Have you found a dress yet?

Nope. Didn’t have a chance to really go look, except once when I got a dress but it wasn’t fit for a wedding.

I like the button on my phone and I don’t want a phone that’s big. Gotta see which iPhone is like that.

@lovebuglena I like the new smartphone flip phones. They are smaller which I like. I'll still stick with my old basic flip phone though.

Your photos aren't "gone". They've been uploaded to your iCloud account online. When you get the new iPhone and you sign into your account, you can tell it to return the photos to your phone and they will zip right back onto it.

@lovebuglena You should buy a good Android phone. It only sends photos off the phone to a cloud account if you tell it to send them. And most Android phones can accept an SD card to expand the memory capacity of the phone. (My Android accepts up to 2 TB SD card.) I have literally hours of videos and tons of photos stored on the SD card.

@DaddyEvil Not a fan of Android phones. Maybe the iPhone also has that setting where you can prevent it from sending photos to the cloud... But I gotta cave in and get a new phone.

They are gone from my phone though. They are not physically there so I can't look at them if I want to.

I hope you get the kind of phone you need. Do you have a laptop in which you could store your photos?

I had an IPhone 6 until last Christmas. They can no longer be updated by Apple. Mine still worked but I was having a few issues. I now have a 12, mini. It’s not that little. And it upgrades itself regularly. The 6 model was made in 2014. , we are fortunate they lasted like they did.

I have it since 2015 or 2016. It did last for a while. Does the 12 have the button?

@lovebuglena I don't think any of them have had that round button at the bottom for a long time now. I don't miss the button.

Oh wow. That's a lot of photos. Can you contact Apple to see if they fix the issue? I hope you can get your mom too.

I was still able to view all my photos until now, even when I kept getting a message that my iPhone storage is full. So I wonder what changed that I can't anymore.
