I Wanted to Step on the Gas

Luckily I have my wits about me and I actually care about human life, even if some human life can be the bane of existence. Besides, they're just kids, right? They don't know any better. But aren't mommy and daddy teaching kids anything these days? I mean, we all were kids once. Rebellious, thinking we were a bit larger than life than we really were, showing off and trying to be bad asses. Except when it came to certain things. Like respecting adults. Or, getting out of the way of a moving vehicle. I was headed into the Casey's parking lot when I encountered five kids walking toward the building. They heard me behind them because they turned and saw me... And kept walking without moving out of the way. In fact, it seemed to me like they actually slowed their pace. And of course, they were laughing and carrying on as they did this. One even stopped in the parking space I was clearly headed toward to check their phone. I wanted to step on the gas. I really did. In that moment I really wanted to do it. Just make them all permanent fixtures of my F-150 grill and be done with it. How tough are you now?

Just wait until they're in a car in front of you at a stop light, texting and ignoring the green light... I can be patient... up to a point.

@porwest Oh, I totally understand exactly how you feel! (I'm sure a judge would understand, too. )

Certain days I will admit my patience really does wear thin. I can't be held responsible for any actions I may be guilty of one of these days. lol

@DaddyEvil Yeah. I wonder if it would be worth trying this out to see exactly what the judge might say. Or not.

I know that was infuriating. Kids aren't taught respect or manners anymore.

@1creekgirl You've got that right. Most likely once trophy kids who are now trophy parents and as such the whole world is going to hell in a hand basket before our very eyes with nary a thing to do to stop it.

It is one the sadder things to happen to kids. Where are the parents?

I don't drive as I would not have any patience let alone the nerve. No one knows how to drive anymore.

Well, they weren't driving. They were walking. And they were in my way. And they knew they were in my way and had no concern that they were in my way. In fact, being in the way was a game for them.

It's awful that kids aren't taught any manners these days - well, some aren't. No wonder road rage hits some.

The whole word is too much devoted to "me syndrome," as I like to call it. No one else in the world matters but "me," and I think that is a problem.

They really aren't. Some people think, "Well, that's just because you're older and have forgotten being a kid." I don't think that's correct. Things really have changed. And not for the better.

I used to drive a special needs school bus in the town where I lived. One morning a couple of kids decided to "play chicken" coming at the bus head on. I got the last laugh though. There was an off duty sheriff behind them and he took them aside, showed them his badge and gave them a bit of a talking to. I wish there was a harmless way you could have retaliated. Those kids you are talking about needed a lesson.

Unfortunately these kids may never get one. Or if they do, it will be a tragic one. Let's hope that is not the case. But I do remember some kids playing chicken with busses when I was growing up, and even with no cops around, it did not end well for the kids who played it.

It really has gone from bad to worse, and I don't know how we turn it around. I suspect many of them will simply become rude adults.

@popciclecold There is someone out there at their wits end who will choose the gas pedal over the brakes and patience. Rest assured.

It scares me to think what kids are learning these days. I mean really, getting out of the way of something coming at you, common sense.

It is beyond aggravating. It just means we are training a future society to forget that they are not the only ones in the world that matter. Not sure what that means for the future.

I have noticed that young persons today like to test the patience of us older persons by daring to risk their lives by asking me stupid questions while I am waiting for a chance to get on a road to work.

Sometimes I think you never leave the house based on your constant "I never see that" type of comment. I truly believe sometimes that you live under a rock.

There is too much of this kind of "absence of mind" these days, and unfortunately it is not just the kids. Even when you are driving by a store entrance, if I see a car I walk a little faster toward the door. Most people just take their time and don't care if you wait.
